Recommended services for boosting visibility of new site?

Hi all

Ive been browsing the services section there is a lot there, and its difficult to know what to choose from and what will best suit my needs.

I have a new site in a predefined niche (one i havent chosen, which is quite tricky, rock music, promoting a music artist) and its the beginning of the promotion process for it really.

I want to ideally provoke interest in real people too alongside generating backlinks and other search engine based things.

because i more want a fan base than sales right now, and i really do need signups for my subscriber list more than anything.

So, can anyone recommend me any specific services to look for or they found useful when starting a new site?

      Thanks Mao Tubemogul is a good shout I had forgotten about that. I use SENuke for distributing articles and bookmarks but I do notice there are services that will do this a lot more effectively because they are specialized in that area. Would it be worthwhile to use these alongside SENuke or - as i am on a budget - because i have kind of got this covered, should i look at other services as priority ( for example, the video submission on SENuke is v limited to amount of sites and a couple of them always fail i must say..plus your video has to be very small to work, and you have to install Ie7 just for its use, so I would try TubeMogul)

      How long do you want your links to matter, to your sites popularity?

      Do you want a short term "boost" or a long term successful website.
      Well, in the end, because its a music artist not a spam site and i am really trying to sell her character and things to like about her as well as her music, in the end i want the visitors to matter rather than the links, and hopefully those visitors even if my site isnt number 1 will help me build my subscriber list. But initially, because she is not heard of, we are not gonna get visitors anyplace else apart from high visibility in search engines and/or lots of links back in other places from a people perspective (quality content leading to the link that real people will be interested in and follow).

      So initially, the links would be the boost to get more visibility in order to gain fans. I do want a long term successful website though, and am wary of who i associate with link building which is why i thought id post here

      Does anyone also have any advice for buying a mailing list? It would have to be one associated with/subscribing because of interest a niche but it could be quite broad - rock music.

          you know what this is a good idea i think id need directories to do with rock music/music in general.. should i just search for any around this topic? Or does PR etc still matter here? If they are paid premium listings of course.

    There is a lot that depends on longevity,

    How long do you want your links to matter, to your sites popularity?

    Do you want a short term "boost" or a long term successful website.

    watch with "whom" you choose to associate with in link building.

    Some website URLs, are black balled, and so you are guilty by association.

    Just some thoughts to ponder.

    Just read back on your post Mao and it seems that you recommend services through dedicated websites rather than people offering them individually and on forums etc[dot] Ive looked at the following services and noted them as potentially useful (have put the url of the thread where i found them next to them) is there anything here thats not suitable for me or i should avoid? Or do you recommend sticking with trusted websites?

    Okay So what sort of twitter services should i be looking at? This is something i havent touched on yet as I am using socialoomph to automate tweets, and simply going on once a week to add new followers by stealing them from authorities in my niche

    And i have not heard of any automation/outsourcing of promotion thru myspace..
    The thing is i would love to be able to do all these along with be the webdesigner and the offline marketing person but i dont have that many hands/that big a brain.
