Downloaded wordpress theme but can't open.

I am a newbie, I have just managed to set up a wordpress blog with fantastico. When I try to open a theme which I downloaded from word press, my browser just goes haywire. I have tried using Firefox and IE, both gave me the same issue. Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?

    Have you verified the theme works for the version of wordpress that you're running?

    Sometimes theme files are corrupted. Try a new theme or two.

    If those don't work, you may have not understood how to change
    themes on wordpress properly.

    Try browsing the themes within Wordpress under Appearance > Add new theme. Search for a theme and install it from there.

      All I have is a very raw page with no "Appearance" tag .

        Sounds like you may need to access via ftp and delete the theme folder. It will located in wp-content/themes.WP will revert back to the defualt theme afterwards.

        This is a risk you take with free themes.

          I have asked Hostgator for help when they asked me to login domain/wp-admin, the page was blank. They said I will need about 48 hours to 72hours before DNS is propagated then I can access to the page. I am not very sure how true because he initially told me he can log in on his side.

        Sounds like you are looking at the front end of your site. You need to go into the back end "dashboard" area. Type in yourdomainname.com/wp-admin and it will take you there.

    Since you seem to be having browser problems, are you
    having them with other sites as well?

    You may have Malware. I have an infected browser on
    one of my computers right now. I've got the problem under
    control running the "NoScript" plugin but the infection is
    still present and messing stuff up - particularly the graphics
    on several self-contained sites hosted on one domain
    account. I have reseller hosting and the issue isn't
    affecting other sites, but because I have the Malware
    problem in that particular computer and the same
    computer is making a hash of just one set of sites, I
    suspect you MAY have a similar issue.

    I don't want to scare you, just let you know that this
    stuff happens - even to experience computer users like
    me - and the problems are not always easily resolved.

    I Run Spyware and Malware scans regularly.

    The first is totally free, the second has a free version
    that does good work. Both tackle somewhat different
