Where Is Internet Marketing Headed In The Future?

Everything is changing the search engines are getting a lot harder to rank organically for highly searched keyword terms .... If you do not know what you are doing! But none the less the competition is stiffer.

Technology is changing daily. I believe videos will even be bigger in the near future. Social networking will be even bigger because people are social by nature.

What changes do you expect in store for the future of Internet marketing? Will it get easier on us online marketers? Or a lot harder?

Harder obviously... how many people were in online marketing 10 years ago compared to now? How much more sophisticated are search engine ranking algo's now?

The other thing is that there are a few big players emerging in most niches, and they are likely to squeeze out the little guys.

By the looks of things IM is heading to the mobile market full steam ahead.
Played with the Mobile PPC concept (admob) and the click rate for a specific niche was immense, though unfortunately the resulting signup ratio was pretty knaff - doubtless that was my fault - needed to make the signup/buy pages more touchscreen friendly but I'm still experimenting.

    Onwards n upwards.

Yeah I have been hearing more and more about the mobile market but I am not too familiar with it yet. Would you be able to place affiliate links through say a text message? How would that work?

Truth is its all really happening on smart phones and the phone internet browsing crowd.

There are folks using text messaging to market but I tend to think that txt messaging is one of those trends that will die before it began as the internet adds slowly take its place.

I am already getting "Text Message Spam".
about 27 messages at one time.
In the future there may be a way to block it but
my carrier is making money off of it so
I do not see text blocking to happen soon.

One of the first sites I sold was a site for bulk text messaging and at the time I really thought it would take off. Everyone was also awaiting the arrival of picture messaging, claiming it would be the next big thing in advertising but it never really happened.

Now we're seeing devices become more like computers, I guess there's no limit to what's possible in terms of mobile marketing.

    Great post, Rhys....

I'm tempted to BUMP up another thread...a Poll I conducted that got alot of responses....with regards to whether or not people perceived it as easier to earn online nowadays....

Alot of great responses came of that thread (Let me go see if I can find it)

    3) A lot of people are moving to offline marketing at the moment, as there's a gold rush for it. Makes it easier for people who are focusing on online marketing to grow a bit while the others are offline marketing

    4) The wrong things to do in Internet Marketing are getting harder to do. (spam commenting etc) -- That means less competitors because most people will give up.

    5) Social Media is growing massively, making it easier to get other people to basically sell your stuff for you because they wanna talk about them.

I could go on and on lol.

That's fine and dandy. But more entrepreneurs are born than made. And those who try to make themselves entrepreneurial will quickly learn that it's not all beauty when they're going against what comes naturally to them.

Sure, some people can learn and adapt. More likely though, they'll struggle and/or give up and start making comments about successful entrepreneurs being "lucky".

While networking is already an important part of internet marketing, I think it is going to become even more important. Of course social media networks such as Twitter and Facebook are on the rise, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Networking with other marketers is going to become even more important than it already is. I see JV's going up, up, up.

That totally depends on how you define "us online marketers" and "internet marketing". Are you talking about florist who's using the internet to grow their business, the eBay Power Seller, the guy selling "how to make money" ebooks, the affiliate marketer, etc.?

To me internet marketing simply means using the internet to market your goods and/or services. And as with TV, radio, newspaper, magazine, etc. marketing you have to adapt as your medium changes or get left in the wake.
