How Many Backlinks Per Day Is A Good Number

I am watching Traffic Secrets 2 (one of the top 5 programs btw and I have bought a LOT of programs!) right now and Reese says no more than 1 link per day for the first few months then start picking it up 3 per day then maybe 4 per day.

Ok a few questions here.

If I submit an article and it goes out to HUNDREDS of directories then aren't I screwed right there?

Also when I first started building my site I went crazy. Created DOZENS of squidoo, wordpress, hubpages etc etc. My site ranked for a few days now its NOWHERE to be found. Am I screwed?

I have a page rank of 1 now and thats a new development. Its alexa is about 800k.

I am thinking maybe google flagged me. Is there any coming back ever or should I start a whole new domain?

So a few questions.

- can you clarify the few links per day thing? How is that even possible If i submit articles?
- should i start a new site if i went crazy in the beginning. But now i see i have a 1 pagerank so im not sure what to do?


Any clarification would be VERY helpful.

    20-50 backlinks per day is a good number. In a couple of months you can increase this quantity to 100 per day.

    Everybody says make it look "natural" like when people find your stuff and link to it. The question is what constitutes 'natural'.

    If you're a new site and have two pages of content, then natural might be 2-3 links/day. If your site is several months old and has 50 pages of "good" content, then 50 links a day might be right.

    I think the links that you are building are okay and this 'rule' applies more to buying or trading links and all of a sudden a site with just a landing page gets 200 links in a week. Not even a googlebot would believe that.

      Jake, I'm one of those advocates of things looking natural. And a methodical 1 link per day, exactly, is no more natural than 200 out of thin air.

      From your own efforts, one one day, two or three another day, none some days, makes for a natural progression. Occasional bursts, such as when an article is picked up and distributed, are also natural.

      Don't forget, when the spiders pick up the links they are also picking up the article containing the link. Getting that simultaneous bump from a bunch of unrelated sources, especially if they're relevant to your subject, is a vote of confidence.

      It's when you try to game the system in the manner you described in your original post that things start looking hinky.

        Well.. first of all you should analyze your competitions backlinks then divide it into days out of the months to make your link building campaign look natural.

        If your competition has 600 links, you shouldn't go out and get 600 links within 2 days... you want to spread out the link building process..

        I have had success with this process so far.

    I build just a few every day typically between 1-4. I don't really think adding 20 + on a new site is all that natural looking. I don't know enough about what article directories look like to the search engines to know the effect of those links on your site though.

    It is quality over quantity in my opinion. I have a site that probably only has around 40 links, but they are all very high quality and my site jumped to a page rank of 5.

      I'd suggest you think about 2 things:

      1. Quality. One backlink from a tightly related page rank 5 site is far better than 5 backlinks from page rank 1 sites.


      2. What the search engines want...quality, highly targeted content.

      Think through the content you're using to get that backlink.

      Not only is it important because it will get people to click through to that link but quality content that includes a back link is more likely to be treated favorably by the search engines.

      Ultimately if you give the search engines what they want and you do enough of that long term you're going to have a lot of free traffic.

      And you never have to worry about your site being sandboxed or dumped altogether from Google and other search engines.

    Your point about quality related tight high PR backlinks is a marketer's wet dream for new websites.

    Besides owning your own network, having friends in the same niches, or buying those links - how would one get their new websites linked?

    Let's say backlinks from homepages sitewide you know the stuff not from articles, social bookmarking, etc...

    I am building my backlinks slowly (natural) but get little frustrated. Basically doing that will cause bigger sharks to eat me alive before I get anywhere not to mention time invested. I was just wondering where the link selling services seat in all of that? They must have some customers?...and taking some of them are not cheap, those customes must see some sort of improvement in the PR/Search ranking
