What Would You Tell An Article Marketing Newbie?

If you had to tell someone who was BRAND new to article marketing the most important thing (okay, 2 or 3 things is fine too) to keep an eye on when marketing/writing articles, what would it be?

The reason I ask is I'm currently in the position to help teach someone how to write proper articles (sort of training a potential employee) and I was just curious what some people would tell someone who was brand new to writing articles for someone else. I think since I've got such a focused idea on it and I'm too close to my own businesses, I can't necessarily give the best advice/insight. So, any ideas or tips?

Well Im a newbie, but im becoming better and better at seo and IM business building day after day. Ive recently gotten into article marketing both for direct affiliate marketing and for building backlinks and traffic.

The most important thing you can say is that, as much as anyone hates to write, its a one time deal for a high pr backlink that draws traffic as well.

I feel that article writing is one of the most important things when it comes to building traffic.
    Why?

Because for every QUALITY article you write youve just built a recurring traffic source for months or years. Depending on the quality of your article writing, you may draw large amounts of visitors with little effort. More visitors than a fresh blog because of its page rank and their own website traffic.

My most effective article writing technique is to find keyword phrases which bring results containing forums, yahoo answers, lesser quality article sites, ehow etc.
When a keyword term bringing up these phrases is found usually an article can be ranked on that page within hours or days.

Depending on the article directory youre submitting to you may do direct affiliate marketing and or build backlinks and traffic. Articles are a gold mine with enough time and effort.

So this is coming from a newbie IMer. Just started around christmas time. So coming from me thats how id want it to be told to me. As long as your friend already has general knowledge of on page optimization article writing should be a breeze.

I would tell them to go down to Barnes & Noble, Borders, or their local book store and look at magazine titles. After scanning over the titles a few times you'll be well on your way to creating articles that get read.

LOL... Jason that is a good and simple way to put it!!! But I have to say that online marketing articles differ a bit. They need to have an inclusion of keywords and keyphrases which will help a site find your article. Anyone writing articles should understand that there needs to be a decent balance between Keywords and information. The keywords need to be included within well structured sentences that MAKE SENSE and convey a message. You should NEVER stuff an article with keywords because it is seen as SPAM and both crawlers and people will ignore you !!!!

Other than that, you really can't show someone how to write, so I hope you aren't praying for that!?!?!

    Andrew,

    Here are 2 things.

    1. Make sure they're ready to get a hard dose of reality...article marketing takes a lot of work and discipline. You can't just put up 2 articles a day and expect mountains of traffic next week.

    2. I'd suggest turning 1 article into 8 by changing the format (3 tip article into a Q and A for example) and also changing the modality...say a 300 word article into a Podcast or short video article to load to youtube.

Might as well get the most bang for your buck

    Cheers,

    Brad
