How to get Google to fix description?

I messed up. I got my site indexed in Google with the WRONG Meta Description (because I copied the page from another of my sites and neglected to change the meta description).

Now, the description under the link in Google shows for the other site -- no match up, at all.

That's GOT to hurt my relevancy score AND confuse the heck out of any searchers.

I've fixed it on my site.

How do I get Google to refresh and start using the updated description?

(Ping? Social Bookmarking? Add a post to my blog (different site) with a link to the updated site and then ping the blog?)

Help!

  • You could try resubmitting your sitemap in Google's Webmaster Tools.
  • Looks like you answered your own question there

Those are all good methods and don't worry too much they will change it the next time they spider and update their listings. To make that potentially happen faster just take your own advice.
  • You don't have to do anything. The next time they crawl your site they will update their database with your correction. That's why they keep coming back, to see what has changed.
  • Yeah I agree. All you have to do now is to wait to update your site's description. It won't take long.

    • Same thing happened to me on one of my sites. Just as everyone is saying, you'll have to wait till it is crawled again and it'll be updated.
