How to find out how much an article is worth?

I am interested in finding out how much my article-writing is worth, but how to do so?

Before anyone suggests posting an article here and asking how much it's worth, I already tried that and got banned for a week

So . . . is anyone willing to give me an opinion on the value of an article, by PM?? Or can anyone suggest any other way to find out?

Thanks in advance for any help with this ))

Since you're fairly new to the forum, I would suggest pricing your articles at competitive prices compared to other warriors offering the same services....just search the Warriors for Hire forum.

After you've done a bunch of business and have generated quality reviews on your thread, you can start to raise your prices because your service will be in higher demand.

    I hope this helps

The simple answer is that it is worth what someone will pay for it.

But even that is not true. It is worth somewhat less than the benefit it will bring the buyer. That is its true value.

Go to Elance and you will see prices all over the map for a 500-word article. (The bids are hidden but the buyers often state the maximum they will pay.) Some are as low as $1 and obviously aimed at writers from developing countries who can afford to work for such an insulting fee. Rare ones go for $100...but winners of those jobs have a ton of experience and credentials behind them plus a valuable specialty.

    Good luck,

When you ask a question like this in a forum, your answers are going to be from buyers (mainly). That's not going to necessarily give you an accurate picture of value. What happens is that most people will answer whatever price they may be used to paying or they may tell you a low figure out of self-interest.

You need to figure out what your time is worth, in order to charge what will make it worth your while to sell an article vs. using it yourself. The idea of charging low to start with and then raising rates is not usually the best way to go about things. I have found that as my rates have gone up, I lose most of the clients but then pick up a new set.

Why not target the higher paying market to begin with, if your writing is of a good quality? By that, I mean that it should have correct grammar and spelling, of course, but more than that. It needs to flow nicely and get the results desired by the client. If you can do that, then charge accordingly.

Don't start off by competing with low level writers if you can produce work that is a cut above theirs. In other words, don't compete on price. You can always run a sale but I recommend starting your regular rates where you want them to be.

Wow, excellent advice, thanks very much for taking the time to give me this valuable info.

I agree with you that's it'd be a good idea to start off at a reasonably high level, as I can write well (I am educated to Masters Degree level, and have a unusually wide range of general knowledge).

I'll give it a go, thanks

Chris, its always easier to drop your price than raise it. Start out with what your regular prices, then see how business is going. You may get less clients in the beginning but, this will give your the opportunity to produce quality articles and get positive testimonials that will help your business grow in the long run.

Chris, you need to go over the other article writing services at different places and look at the competition offers.

Most seem to be in the $5-$10 range.
