Hi there,

Have you looked at setting up an account on Freelancer.com or elance.com?

You could give it a go as a freelancer writer. That might at least be a place to get started.

There are some freelancers out there that seem to do pretty good just writing articles.

Lots of sites that used to pay well have dropped what they offer; Associated Content was phenomenal a couple years ago; don't pay as well anymore.

Many people contact me through my computer website & forum wanting to know how to make money on their PC. It can be a moving target unless you really want to get into IM which some people don't want to carry it that far - they just want to write.

What I have been doing recently is suggesting they might hook up with some others who do this all the time. There's a free report you can grab at getpaidwriting (dot) org that you may find helpful.

it is true Associated Content did pay out a lot more, but they still pay you for articles. It all depends on the type of article and the rights you give to the article submitted. I still submit to associated content, today. However, if you really want to make money by submitting articles. The the performance views is the way to do it.

Even there are other forums as well where you can promote your service. Intially you may not get $10-$15 per article since there are very good article service provider and they charge $5-$7 for 500 words article. Good Luck :-)

To set your own price, try Constant-Content or write PLR articles.

For a flat fee, check out Demand Studios, Internet Brands, BrightHub (they also offer residuals), Break Studios and Need An Article.

For sites that pay a passive income, again, try Bright Hub or you can try Suite101.

Also, keep an eye out for the Personal Money Store blog. They've suspended their upfront payments for the time being, but when/if they ever return, hopefully, they'll do so at their former rate (or better). They used to pay between $15 and $25 per article (and you had somewhat of a choice, depending upon how you submitted the articles), plus residuals up to $200 per article. You may want to drop in on the site periodically to see if they ever resume the program. Don't be fooled by their niche either, you can write on any financial topic of your choosing.

My personal recommendation is to list articles on Constant-Content, on your own site, offer your services here and look into creating PLR articles. The content sites that pay upfront tend to be low-paying and the ones that offer passive income opportunities take a lot of time before you start to earn anything worth mentioning. If you're looking to turn a fast buck (and not much more than a buck, lol) check them out, but if you're seriously looking at writing as a regular income stream take a better route.

This is a really helpful thread! While I would like to make all my money online doing IM, I'm not quite at the stage where I can do that yet. I have been doing some Freelancing over the past few months at Elance.com (I've made over $3000 in that time... so not spare change, but not exactly a full time income either). I personally find that you can get the best article writing jobs at Elance. I see other sites where people want you to write articles for ridiculously low (like $1 or $2 an article).

I think a few years ago it was easier to get a reasonable rate per article, but now competition is more fierce and yes, you are getting people willing to do more for less (I suppose with the economy the way it is).

However, since joining the WF I see a LOT of opportunity here as far as earning money by writing articles (I checked out a couple of writers' threads here and it looks as if they're able to generate at least $10 per article). I'll be looking into offering my services here in the nearish future (I have some other work to get out of the way first), so I wouldn't go past the WF when looking for writing work. I have no idea how many clients you'll get but it seems that if you do a good job and deliver on time you'll get a few good testimonials!

That is how I started, and it was generating pretty decent income. Now, I do most of my work freelancing through my blog. The downside to freelancer and other sites like it is that you find a lot of "Wanna be
writers" offering to write 500 word articles for a dollar!!!

So it will take a while before someone actually TRUSTS that you are a great writer and gives you the first chance.

It takes a while to get someone to trust that you will provide quality work, especially without reviews, but it will come soon enough! If you want you can consider lowering your price BUT you have several advantages (as did I): you are a native English speaker, with a Journalism background (as do I), and you live in a NATIVE English speaking country!

Dev,

I have a question for you. Is writing and selling articles all you want out of making money online? If that is all you want to and bring a little extra cash on the side then the people above have given you some great places to start.

But if you want more, if you want to build a business selling products I would focus on writing your own content for your own website. Submit your articles to the big sites (articlesbase, ezine) and build your list.

Now, once again, if you don't want to go any further than just a few extra bucks online to pay the monthly gas bill then go ahead and write articles for other people.

Or maybe even better for you, create your own content creation business. Start writing ebooks, small reports, and other things and you'll build a clientele. Then you can create plr content and do a membership site or sell it via wso forum.

I think that Elance or this site in the Classifieds section is good for making some money writing articles... If you are a very experienced article writer, you might also want to check your local newspaper.. sometimes they take articles from people other than their own.
