Outsourcing Advise Please

Hi....I am new here (although I've been lurking around and reading the fabulous threads on this forum for weeks)!

First of all.....you guys are awesome and I'm so glad that I have found this community!

My question is regarding outsourcing.

I'm still going through the IM learning curve and will probably be doing so for a long time. I'm not a techie by nature so have a lot to absorb. To my surprise I am finding myself fascinated with this world. That being said, it has become very clear to me that I need to really take my time and fully understand everything involved in being successful at IMing. As I would like to start my business while still learning I am considering outsourcing. There are areas that I can see myself being very strong in and others....not so much at this point.

What are the most beneficial tasks to outsource in the beginning? I know this is a loaded question but I would really appreciate some input.

Thanks!

  • It is a great time to start outsourcing when you first come into this industry. I wish i would have started a bit earlier myself.

What you should be outsourcing is a hard question to answer when we don't know what you objectives are.

Give a bit more information and im sure you can get some really good answers.

    • You're right Jeff......it's a loaded question.

My objectives are pretty basic at this point. Get a few websites and blogs up and running and get the traffic flowing. Learn, learn, and then learn some more. Build things up from there. And then hopefully start seeing some revenue.

I know it sounds so simple and basic but, I'm looking to get a foundation set and go from there.

      Thanks.

  • As someone who does too much of it myself, I'm actually inclined to believe that it is best to outsource everything right from the get-go in order to successfully develop an outsourcing business model. It'll be a bumpy road with detours and dead ends, but once you get a nice engine put together with lots of backups when certain providers don't deliver, it should work out nicely.

First thing I've learned in outsourcing is that you'll get lots of people who seem to be great jumping in with both feet to help you (just like the f&*#*ng film industry), BUT who'll drift away from being useful to you just as quickly as they parachuted in. It'll take a while to find reliable providers who can consistently deliver satisfactory product/services.

Now, internet marketing is a vast umbrella covering all sorts of online business styles and strategies. Just pick one (or you'll be running in all sorts of directs like a gopher running after golf balls for many different players).
  • The best things to outsource are the tasks that are repetitive that you don't like doing.
  • Thank you all for your feedback! You make some very good points and I appreciate it!

Now, the big question....who can I trust for outsourcing? I know Jeff....another loaded questions....just thought I'd ask!

    Thanks again!

    • Jaq,

Jeff gave you some great advise.

IMO I would do exactly what he suggested. get one site up an rolling. Learn what it takes and how long it takes you
Note which items you could get better at but, Most importantly, learn all.

This way you can determine what you need to outsource and more importantly if they are doing you right.

From reading online here and my own experience I find outsourcing content is usually one of that largest practices.
I know I do it because it takes time. But I have written my fair amount of content.

Regarding your recent question: Who to trust. I suggest once you determine what yo want to outsource then return and search the board for them. Look for feedback
Then post a direct question like:

I am thinking about using "X Guys" has anyone used them and what do they think?

There are SO many ways and folks to outsource, I would go back to my original statement and say do it your self first

    Hi Jaqs,

Outsourcing has its pros and cons. There's a lot of outsourcing providers whom you can trusted and can't be trusted. Make sure that you ask all the necessary information needed such samples and references before outsourcing project.
