I recently got a Chinese Martial Arts book translated for $200 in total 2 different people translated the book.

So I could judge the accuracy from this & was very pleased.

Next step 4 weeks ago I placed a job on freelancer to have the translations rewritten into plain English.

My mistake was in giving the job to a woman with only two references. Others even with lower bids had as many as 20 or more. But she claimed some background in martial arts so I gave her the job on that basis.

It was US $200 to rewrite the book and add a little more.

OK I send her a big pile of research info, two different translations and requested she email every 2-3 days with a progress report.

I also requested periodic samples of the writing to make sure it was OK.

Basically in 3 weeks this woman produced 7 pages of writing. She did not give a progress report once and took 3-4 days usually to just reply to my emails if at all.

So now this asshole has all of my research & the translations I paid $200 for.

Yes I should have drip fed and paid more attention to the number of referals.

I canceled the project so hopefully they will just leave it as is because I have no intention of paying this woman.

At least it only cost you $200 to learn this valuable lesson. My first painful lesson like this cost me almost $50k

Just learn the lesson and move on now. Don't let it spoil your business in any other ways.
