Facebook Privacy Alert

(Sorry if this was already posted here -- the Search function is still down. But I only heard about this today, so it probably bears repeating anyway.)

Facebook Users: Watch your personal information: As of last week, there is a new privacy setting called "Instant Personalization," which shares data with non-facebook websites, and is automatically set to "Allow."

Go to Account > Privacy Settings > Applications & Websites and UN-CHECK "Allow."

If it goes on the web anywhere, it's just not private anymore. That's my mantra anyway.

I have nothing to hide, except my grande derrier but even that is posted in a picture someone else stuck up of me on facebook. Damn roof parties.

The stuff that facebook tells other sites about me is the least of my privacy worries. If you ever put it online then it's out there somewhere. Think of it like a tattoo.

Yeah, once information is out in the cloud it's difficult to protect and impossible to take back. However, that doesn't stop me from trying... so thanks for the heads-up on Facebook's new "feature."

@Scott Ames: You're a great sport! I'm sure if you contacted facebook or google they'd be happy to sign you up for their new "offline personalization" pilot program where they implant a chip in your brain so they can serve targeted adds directly into your brain while you sleep.

I can't understand why FB would want to pee everyone off by making it so easy for others to see profiles etc,

The only reason I use FB is because I can control what I post etc, take that control away from me, and I won't use it any more.

I use FB a lot, however I don't use it for marketing, just for social interaction with family and friends (as I suspect most people do). I post stuff on there that I wouldn't dream of sharing otherwise.

I suspect a lot of people will stop using it if they think personal info is going to be bandied about
