Advice needed for selling ads on website

Hi guys. I've got an opportunity to earn some passive income from selling ads on my writing-related website and need some help in putting together information on ads and rates. The organization that contacted me earlier this week is also interested in advertising on my website. So far, it has just expressed an interest.

Now I'm trying to put some information together on ad rates to send back to them. (Never did this type of work before.) My plan is to provide rates for classified ads at x-amount of money of money for say, One month, Another rate for six months, and x-amount of money for a year. The rate would be 50 cents per word. Maximum length of a given ad would be 20 words.

I would like to get back to that organization within 5 days if possible.

Would like to know what you think of the time frames and rates. Do they seem to be all right? Are they wack? Have I omitted anything?

Thanks so much in advance for any help..

    Hello,
I think you need to charge for the amount of traffic that your website gets,
I would also find out what other websites charge that are like yours.
I would also try to give them a bonus if they take 3 ads they will get one free, just be creative in some way to get more business from them instead of a one shot deal.

    Something new soon.

Thanks Lou! I never thought about offering a bonus, but will now.

My website gets some traffic and only has Google ads on its homepage so far.

Term ads are so easy to sell, its when you get into CPM territory where things get wild! If you run google adsense on the site look to see what your eCPM is, then multiply that number for every thousand views you get on your site.

If you are a high traffic website, more than 500,000 page loads a day you can easily charge your advertisers $5 CPM if not more. Why? Because you are guaranteeing them there message will be seen.

But what if your niche is small? Even better, this means that they will pay a premium to advertise with you. Remember you can always come "down" in price to make a deal, but you can never go back up...

Your points are well taken. My website's focus is journal writing and mining ideas from journals.

      Thanks for the tips!
