How do you make 'web' actors on your website like this?

What software package are these people ("companies") using to make live web actors? I.e., a sample webpage "Live Flash Video Actors", or this: http://www.conserveincomfort.com/index.php (the company doing it is 'liveactor', but don't want to use their service, want the software they are using to do it)

I.e., you know the one where you visit a webpage, and some guy or girl comes in, walks and starts talking? I don't want to purchase a service, I am looking for the software package all these guys are using (seems they are using the same one based on the video play/stop buttons, etc).

I've done tons of searching, and can only seem to find (go figure ) internet markerters selling their services for $300-$600 for a 30 second to 1 minute commercial. I am looking for the actual software they are using to do this.

Could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

It seems like Josh knows something about it- Transparent Video - Transparent Video Effect - Alpha Channel Video . His full name is Josh Anderson, member of this forum too.

By the way, I haven't bought the product or don't know how to create this type of video. I just thought this is the type of video you are looking for.

There you go, Loren provided a free resource. Enjoy!

I forgot to say that I don't know Josh personally (just saw him around here) and the link I gave you is not an affiliate link

Had to get those out of the way.

The previous reply seems comprehensive but you may just want to go ahead and get some software yourself.

I'm not sure if this will help but it's probably not a software (all in one) package as such. They are probably using a high end graphics package and then simply using javascript to insert it into the site.

If you want to learn how to do this yourself it's actually not that difficult.

Firstly you need a software package that can handle chroma keying without costing the earth. I would recommend visual communicator (studio edition comes with green screen and quality clip mike). This was developed by a really cool outfit called "Serious Magic" who produced fantastic software that could make novices look like Holywood Director's. But like all these great little outfits they were bought out by Adobe. So you'll need to go there and get a 30 day trial (but you won't get the green screen you need to do transparencies on the trial). Adobe - Visual Communicator 3 (non affiliate)

(Please note that I purchased this through Serious Magic so if you decide to go ahead confirm Adobe are packaging this with the green screen and mike)

Another option is Ulead Video Studio which also handles Chroma Keying. They too have been bought out, this time by Corel. You'll need to speak with them to confirm which edition you require. This is probably the cheapest packaged software but bear in mind you will need a green screen to proceed. Corel is now the official site for Ulead customers and products (non affiliate)

On top of that you just need a decent video camera and some light boxes (try ebay),then look on-line for the code needed to input the transparency and away you go.

It's not that complicated if you don't mind learning. Failing that the custom made option at Yaoti seems fair to me.

      • HI Loren & Tony,

        Thanks for the replies.

Ok -- quick questions then (I am basically doing this for a friend, and want to put something together relatively quickly).

        1. So, I would take my digital camera, and say take a video of me talking, correct?
        2. Although I don't have a 'green' screen, I do have a pretty consisent background available (yellow/beige). I am assuming that will work fine for the chroma keying, correct?
        3. I then get one of these software packages (which is the best?). Least expensive for now would be best (because doing this for a friend, and just want to see how long it takes to put something like this together).
        4. I then would get a 'transparent' video player? Which... I guess is $120 (if I went with the package Josh has). Are they any good 'free' alternatives, or is that the one both of you would recommend? (I've seen a lot of flash video players available for free, so not sure if it is simply a matter of tweaking something within an existing player to play through the transparency? I'm sure his package is probably quite good for more professional tweaking, just need something quick.)

And is that about it? Or have I missed anything I should know about?

        Thanks!
