Balancing your Squeeze Page, Blog, Sales Letter

Hello,

Just a quick question here. If you have a Blog where you post your articles, a Squeeze-Page where you are giving away your free report, and a Sales page where you are selling your product / e-Book.. how do you balance where to send traffic to?

For example, I understand it is best to send most traffic to your squeeze page, since it's all about building your list. Of course once they are subscribed to you, they will eventually find out about the product you are selling, but how will they know about your blog?

Should I get rid of the Squeeze Page site and put an opt-in form on the blog on each page, and advertise to that?

Also: What happens if I decide to step it up a bit, and instead of giving away a free report, I decide to make a Video Series to give away. Do I register a new domain and make a whole new site for that? Do I have to start from scratch again and just link people to the new one instead?

Hope this makes sense, just a little confused and want to clear some things up so I can get started!

Just some quick thoughts here because I'm short on time:

Your blog, squeeze page and sales letter are for different types of traffic. You are probably sending warm traffic to your squeeze page, right? Article marketing and all that...That's good.

Your sales page is for your hot traffic, folks who've already hit your squeeze, signed up and have been through your auto responder series. They are going to your squeeze page with the intent to buy.

Your blog brings in somewhat targeted search engine traffic and traffic you've sent there from your list.

That said, I view it this way (and others will disagree - different strokes...): I would spend my time sending traffic to the squeeze. Get them on the list! Use the list to get people interested and send them to your sales page. Sure, you can send people straight to the sales page, but you typically won't capture as many addresses and you won't have multiple shots at pitching your offer.

As for the blog, I spend about 75% of my effort getting traffic from the blog to the squeeze and 25% to the sales letter.

Think of your content pages (blog posts, articles, press releases, etc...) as the spider web, catching all of the surrounding visitors driving them to the center which is your action page (squeeze page usually).

When I first launch a site, I send all traffic to the sales site first until I am satisfied with the conversion (sometimes it takes several iterations) - I use split testing to help move this process along.

Once I'm comfortable, I mainly send traffic to squeeze pages, though I do sprinkle in a mix that directs right to the sales page.

This is definitely a funnel that you should map out for yourself.

      What is your sales funnel?

What is your sales process in general?

When you answer these questions, it should give you a more clear picture as to what you should be sending your traffic to.

Now, I know it is different for every niche. If your target market is people just looking for something to buy, (keyword example: ipod nano 80Gb) maybe a squeeze page or sales page might be a good starter.

If they are looking more for information, (keyword example: what is an ipod ) then your blog might be your better decision.

If your main market is info seekers, make sure blog is preselling all the time.

Example: Now that you know what an ipod is, sign up to my newsletter and see what great things Ipods have to offer, yada yada yada.

Determine your target market. Then determine your funnel. The rest is gravy.

        These responses are very useful

Just as aside (and I know it varies per niche) but what are views on whether the squeezepage or the blog should be your site home page?
ie: what people would first hit if they came through to your site by typing in yourstename.com

I am just having this debate (with myself) so any views would be appreciated. i have seen it done both ways ...
