Hi everyone:

Even though I initially decided to go with Autoresponse Plus, for deliverability reasons people are telling me to go with a 3rd party service.

I do not want to spend the crazy money on Aweber.
Is getresponse just as good now and offers same deliverability rate?

What about others like icontact, emailaces etc.?

Feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!

I've heard a lot of bad stuff about emailaces... I believe aweber is the best overall, but I'm trying out my own based on infinite responder, which is a free script. Haven't had much experience with it yet, but it was sure easy to install and generally seems to work well with my testing. It seems to get through my yahoo email ok.

Aweber is by far the best. And $20/month isn't that much if you're going to try to build any kind of real long-term business. Sometime you have to spend money to make money.

lol my list is kinda big and getting bigger everyday... so aweber for me will be an expensive solution.
I guess I will stick to autoresponse and if the deliverability suffers then try out getresponse.

I have infinite responder, and with nearly 600,000 subscribers, cost savings is a big plus for me. There may be some deliverability issues noted, but overall this is a good solution if you have a huge list. Get your subscribers to whitelist your email when they double optin. You ARE using double optin, right?

            yes double opt-in.
Infinite responder's better than autoresponse plus?

I don't know much about autoresponse plus, but I've been using Infinite responder for several years now, and it's free. How much better can it get?

AWeber is NOT expensive, and don't expect quality service for anything less than what they charge. If your list is so big that they're going to charge you an arm and a leg, then your income should still be able to support it. If not, consider filtering out your unresponsive subscribers.

I recently switched to a 3rd party service (hosted my own email list for 2 years) and didn't know if I should go with GetResponse or AWeber. I tried both of them, and AWeber is the simplest to use.

Did you see any difference in mail delivery rate b/w hosting your own list versus using 3rd party.
Other than being simple to use, was the delivery rate same for getresponse and aweber?

                  Thanks.

I'm not sure why GetResponse is the poor cousin in these kind of questions. It does everything aWeber does, and both products have the same attitude to deliverability, so I can't figure out why aWeber is pushed more often as a better product.

I've been using GetResponse for years - maybe 8 or 9 now - and no other autoresponder has turned my head in that time. It has performed flawlessly, and the people running are super responsive and great to talk to.

For me the one great advantage with GetResponse - which in my mind is one of the greatest unrevealed secret with autoresponder lists - is the ability to automatically cancel from the prospect list when your prospect becomes a buyer. Automatically.

That means you have two different lists to separately pitch to prospects and buyers. This is gold and a key part of my list building strategy.

Whatever autresponder you choose - make sure it has this feature.

If I use Aweber, it would cost me $1,100 per month. My income can support it, but I would much rather support my wife and kids with it. And my "unresponsive" subscribers get removed just fine.

Wow, it can handle that many? Looks like I got lucky finding it then. I searched before for a good autoresponder and couldn't every find anything. I just stumbled on IR recently and decided to give it a go for my first time of list building. It's handling my 6 subscribers great! Unfortunately, 3 of them are me.

              Totally agree with your post.

Note all, before Aweber introduce their analytical feature (and the price revision that comes with it), they cost almost the same as GetResponse does (and with similar incremental upgrades as well). Hence, if you don't need the analytical features (which can be achieved using 3rd party software), then GetResponse (or any of the Aweber Private Labels who haven't adopt the new price) is what I would suggest you go for.

                I personally use Aweber.

p.s. forget about hosting your own autoresponder, especially if you have no idea what you're doing!

Frustratingly, I do dnot have a credit card, and I am not sure if I would get accepted for one, I have only recently become officially "self-employed" and my earnings aren't massive.

Since I do not have a credit card, I cannot pay for aweber, or getresponse. To add insult to injury, there does not seem to be a reliable autoresponder service you can use which accepts paypal. It is driving me nuts as I know I BADLY need to build a list.

I tried installing phplist, but man, that was tough.

If you have a Premiere or Business account with Paypal then you can get a Debit card, usable just like a bank check card.

Unfortunately it looks like endgame is based in the UK were paypal don't offer a debit card. However you can get a paypal visa top-up card that you can use to pay for autoresponders if you wish. You can top up via paypoint (post office) some banks or via your paypal account. There's a one of fee of £4.95 for the card.

There is 1shopping cart. I personally use email aces and haven't had an issue. And one of the reasons I picked it was (a) I liked the interface (b) support was quick (c) they don't charge an arm and a leg and let you try it free and (d) they take paypal. I have a cc, but not everyone wants to use them. CC is NOT free money but a really high interest loan IMHO.... Bishop81 try email aces.

If you can't get a credit card why don't you get a "secured" credit card,
anybody can get one of those, you just put money down on a card and it
works just like a unsecured card, you can get it in visa or mastercard then
you can make purchases online, or have a friend purchase it with there card
and pay them in cash...thats a way to solve the problem.

Get a debit card with a Visa or Mastercard logo on it. You can use it just like a credit card. If you cannot get one of those, Paypal offers an online only Mastercard number, it's called "Paypal Plug-In".

Not everyone should do single opt-in - it can be dangerous and give you a lot of strife unless you're well prepared and take a professional approach. But it can be wildly successful as I found that in a recent test, where restarting single opt-in increased my sign-ups by 10 times. When you go instantly from 50 to 500 a day, that's a lot of extra eyeballs.

The background criteria to doing this is crucial - you MUST have an excellent and longstanding relationship with your autoresponder people in case of problems (and there will be some). You need to independently prove where your sign-ups come from, and your content must be good.

There's a few other essentials, but if I revealed them I wouldn't be able to charge $197 for my next IM book

I have tried running autoresponder on my own server, GetResponse, Aweber and 1SC. But I finally stay with Aweber. Maybe because of its user-friendliness. 1SC is good but if you only need autorespnder, Aweber can do the job.

Whatever you do, stay away from running from your own server. I was accused of spam a few times and my webhosting blacklisted me. This is not the risk you want to take. I'd rather pay a little more for peace of mind.

Here's a tip. If you have a huge list, besides double opt-in to weed out browsers, you can do (maybe once half-yearly) list cleaning to reduce the list size and only keep serious prospects.

Well yes, I most certainly do have a suggestion. My own TotalMarketer.com accepts Paypal subscriptions and we achieve good deliverability. In addition to unlimited autoresponders, our service includes product and affiliate mangement, a membership module which allows for unlimited memberships, your own customer support desk, ad tracking and more.

As a professional copywriter I've written sales copy and email copy for many different lists being emailed to in many different ways and seen the results.

The worst results are with people running their own autoresponder scripts.

The best results are with people using Aweber as an autoresponder service (as far as I know 1shoppingCart uses Aweber to run their autoresponder service).

There are all kinds of problems with running an autoresponder service (black listing etc) and unfortunately you're not going to see how bad those problems can get until your list gets into the thousands or tens of thousands.

If you go for a cheap solution it will most likely cost you in the long run.

At the moment Aweber does seem to have the highest deliverability rate.

Keep in mind that when it comes down to it a list of 100,000 subscribers is no good to you if none of them get your email.

I used a couple of free autoresponders very early on and built lists into the thousands that are completely useless...this is one of the things you don't want to economize on.

In internet marketing your email list is your most valuable asset.

This thread worries me a bit now. I just downloaded a free sequential auto responder called EGGS. It promotes many of the features that I thought my new campaign would need, i.e. unlimited delivery schedule, double or single opt in, html support. Has anybody run into problems with this program in particular? Why would the lists you created with the freeware in your beginnings be worthless now? My only lists, to date, were created from eBay buyers of over 5 years ago so I consider myself to be starting from scratch. I am very new to the concept but see the huge potential of being able to automatically send new content weekly, but I am afraid that the cost would be prohibitive if the hosted sites charged extra after only five or six sends.

                        Thanks,
                        Dave

Do you have an option to pay for one year at once?
That's the kind of payment options I am looking for since I live in Belgium, have no credit card, Paypal Belgium does not provides nor pre-paid credit cards nor debit cards not any other kind of stuff mentionned here.
Moreover, pre-paid credit cards are illegal in Belgium.
So, since my current auto-responder provider seems to be unable to manage his service properly, I'm studying other options.
                      Thanks for the answer
                      Dominique.

ARE YOU FOR REAL??? Your list (or list to be) is worth a fortune, you've got to take care of your list and part of that is using a top of the range system to manage your list. Investing a few bucks a month into your Autoresponder is going to come back MANY, MANY MANY TIMES OVER!

Don't be tight on this one, maybe be careful with your Adwords daily budget, but not with your list manager. Get the best and get serious about making money. Since I took Jimmy Ds' adwise to use Aweber, managing my list is so much easier, and better results.

this is one investment you don't want to take shortcuts on.

You want to aim for the inbox...!

Well I can "aim for the inbox" with getresponse too for a lot cheaper, can't I?
It seems they're part of all the same ISP-friendly and Whitelisting programs that Aweber is.

If any of you have access to the private forum, I wrote a long, detailed comparison between autoresponder service providers and scripts.

In short, don't run your own Autoresponder. I personally use GetResponse and I'm happy.

Darn, I've been holding off until I was a bit more familiar with other Warrior forum areas. Your post alone is probably worth the investment.

I've heard 1shoppingcart was having delivery problems, otherwise it seems like a good choice to integrate with their shopping cart/order system.

      Has anyone used goldbar.net?

      or mailloop.com

I am the head of the Email Delivery Department at 1ShoppingCart and can assure you there are no delivery issues at this time.

This is all good stuff but I go with Aweber.
You also need to consider the reliability factor.

I used Constant Contact for several years before I switched to Aweber. CC is a high-end subscription service that produces great looking newsletters but did not have the autoresponder feature. It also cost twice as much.

Try Email Aces. They take paypal and are reasonably priced.

There is very little difference between Getresponse and Aweber as concerns deliverability. Those are the only two I would recommend and I have tested just about everyone out there. Email Aces is a joke.

arp3.com is a great server based solution but you have to be extremely diligent about being blacklisted. ARP3 really only works well with thirdsphere hosting and they will drop you in a second if you are unresponsive to spam complaints.
