Anyone ever paid for a mailblast?

Hey guys,

I've got a blues guitar site which seems to be converting reasonably well at the moment. Selling between 15-20 products a month...with around 50-80 visits a day. I was doing some reading about listbuilding and the concept of paying for a mailshot came up.

Now, I've been in touch with Guitar World Magazine who have a mailing list of 180,000 guitar players. One of their advertising options is paying for an html mailblast of their list, only thing is...it costs $1800 to do it.

Anybody have any experience of paying for this kinda thing?

No, but as long as its a targeted list, which it sounds like it is, than it should work well.

Note: The traffic that you send to your site from the list should not be to a page to sell any product, per say. Send the traffic form the mailing list to a squeeze page with a massive lead magnate, like a large course or ebook or video series... free if they optin to your list. You could grow a huge list from that, and then market to them as much as you want, free.

Yep, sounds good. Guitar product, readers of guitar magazine. Mike is right though...utilize that blast effectively by offering them something in return for their email. Otherwise, when that blast is over, your $1800 is gone and the campaign is over. If you made some sales, great. But if you collect as many emails as possible by offering a kickbutt FREE product, then you will have them on your OWN email list...good luck! I am a musician, so I am definitely a fan of music niches!

Personally, I like 2. Less fluff...does a more effective job of SQUEEZING them to put in their email list. Both are well designed, I just think number one is too busy.
