What Tim Ferriss knows about marketing, that most dont..

Found this little video from Tim Ferriss who was nice enough to give this guy a little time at the dinner table.

It's kind of obvious that he's a little put off by the camera up in his face while he's waiting for his food, but none the less gives the guy some rock solid ideas for how to "monetize" his blog.

PAY ATTENTION: pay close attention to his philosophy on content.
1. Evergreen
2. More popular the longer it stays
3. Quality ("More valuable in 2 years, than when I first put it up")
4. GIVE to your audience and build them, then they will give you whatever you need.
5. Don't rush to monetize.

In other words, stop being short sighted and focusing on churning out crappy spun articles and start focusing on adding true value to your audience and you'll come out way ahead in the end.

I wouldn't say most marketers don't know that, there are a lot of folks here who have been preaching quality content and delivering value for years. It's good advice. I'm sure it may come as a surprise to a percentage of users here.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

I dunno, i guess it's just my perception as I look around the forums (not just this one), and at other marketers sites, at how many people are looking for ways to short cut their way to a buck.

      Either way, it's good advice.

Great post - thanks for posting the video. Tim Ferris is awesome - I like his advice. Good business advice in general - focus on providing value. Also like the evergreen concept.

Yep, great advice. Nothing new, but the points he made should be reassuring to anyone who gets confused by SEO and promotion, and prefers to just focus on content.

It really is THAT simple, and if more people focused on great content, rather than SEO and trickery, the web would be so much more useful

On a side note, I've seen kids no older than 14, with several thousand social network subscribers (Youtube etc), who don't know the first thing about promotion or SEO...

...they just love to put out content and keep it real.

...and the world responds, because that's what the net is for.

Wish I were that 17 year old with thousands of subscribers

I'd promote every single **** berry offer to them
