Problem with reinstalling Wordpress

Hi guys,
I have several wordpress blogs and last night I created a new one. After setting everything up I decided on a different sub-domain so I uninstalled. However in my sleep deprived state I forgot to uninstall from fantastico first.

Here is my problem.

These are the steps I took to uninstall it:

1.) I removed the subdomain from cpanel
2.) I removed the add on domain from cpanel
3.) I deleted both the subdomain and the addon domain folders from cpanel
4.) I than tried to uninstall WP using fantastico (I know now that I should have made this my first step because it couldn't find the necessary file to automatically uninstall).
5.)I unintalled Wp using the manual instructions by deleting the mysql database and mysql user.

Once finished I tried to reinstall. This is what I did.

1.)Created the add on domain in cpanel
2.)Created the sub domain in cpanel
3.)Tried to use fantastico to reinstall wordpress

This is the error I am getting:

Install WordPress (2/3)

The installation can not be completed:

- You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.

Click on the browser's Back button to fix reported errors.

I did this twice now and I am sure that both directories (addon domain and subdomain) were deleted from cpanel.

I recreate them and try to install wordpress and get the above error message.

I than made one last attempt and cleared all cookies and started over with everything above but I still get the same error message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

rthorne

What about just installing it in a subfolder, and then moving it to root when you are done?

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

I should also add that I have already visited the wordpress support forum with very limited success.

    Thanks again in advance,

I think the problem lies in where fantastico keeps track of all installations. Does your host have a live chat feature? They should know the answer to this one.

Did you delete the database, username and password from MySQL ?? Not just delete the database info from PhpMyAdmin but did you also delete the created database itself ..??

Also did you double check on FTP to make sure the subdomain/folder was deleted ??

Yes I did all of the above already. I will try Tommy's suggestion and contact my hosting to see if they know what to do. In the mean time, keep the suggestions rolling in. My head is hurting from trying to figure this out

      Thanks again everyone,

Well just got off the line with support at hostgator and they couldn't help either. They told me to submit a ticket. Anyone have any idea how long the whole ticket process takes with hostgator?

    Thanks,

Not long. Should get back to you within a few hours.

Fantastico has a little text file, and I can't remember where it is. But you have to find it, and edit out the record that had been there, which records the installation of your original wordpress.

Look for any files throughout your site that have the word fantastico in the filename.

This has happened to me before this is what you must do:

    1. Login to your hostgator cpanel
    2. Go to "file manager"
    3. click on the ".fantasticodata" folder
    4. open up "installed_in_root.php" and edit it.

This is an example of what I mean:

If you open up "installed_in_root.php" you will see something like this:

    $installed_in_root["dateonlineinfo.com"] = 1;

This is what you need to delete.

(this is just an example from my "installed_in_root,php" file).

Keep in mind that every install of wordpress you have made will be stored in this file, be very carefull not to delete any of your other wordpress sites out of it.

I hope this makes sense lol, I'm not very good at explaining things.

    Thanks

    Thanks Clare,

My headache is starting to ease already . What do you mean you can't explain things clearly? You gave to me step by step. Even a chimp could figure it out with your help. You figured out what the support at hostgator could not. Thanks again. Everything is now working fine.

A big thanks to everyone else for your suggestions too.
