Are there really micro niches out there?

Hi,

lately im tired of going after the large niches like weight loss, acne, making up with ex etc. It's so saturated and a pain to rank for anything it seems. Im just having trouble making it work or its hit and miss.

So im wondering, is there a such thing as micro niches? Im thinking of making small small niche blogs with blogger.com as a test just to test some of these niches. Im also thinking of trying to promote some of the say 50 or less gravity products at clickbank. Does this sound like a turn in the wrong direction or do some of the low gravity products at clickbank actually convert well? Thanks

I can say with certainty, Corey..

    YES!

Get stuck into them. You'll enjoy it.

My best advice in this area is to pick your topic and target keywords wisely.

Remember that your focus is micro niche and don't get too hung up on stuff that doesn't matter.

    Peace and success to ya

I couldn't have said it better

EDIT: Also, don't forget that you can find sub niches in many big niche markets.

For example, if weight loss is the main niche then love handles is a sub niche.

Hint: Clickbank is not the only place to go looking for micro niches.

thanks guys. If you dont mind me asking how do you do keyword reasearch to find these small niches? I really am eager to work in the smaller niches now. But some of the small niches I looked at get only like 8 searches per day according to wordtracker haha. Guess thats one to stay away from? Thanks!!

A good way to get ideas for sub-niches is to use Google Suggest. Nothing to buy, nothing to download. Have you noticed that when you start typing a search term, Google starts displaying a list of related words? The words in the list are actually based on what other people have searched for, and you can get a ton of ideas this way.

For example, take the "weight loss" niche that, as you said, is competitive and saturated. Start typing "weight" into the search box, and see what you get:

        weight watchers
        weight watchers points
        weight watchers points calculator
...and other stuff that's not necessarily related

Type a bit more, slowly, and watch. After you type "loss," you'll see:

        weight loss tips
        weight loss calculator
        weight loss success stories
        weight loss plateau
        ...

Now here's where it can get even more powerful. Start adding modifiers to your search term. Like "weight loss is," "weight loss for" "weight loss and." But with Google Suggest, you want to type slowly and pay attention. When you type "weight loss i," you get:

        weight loss inspiration
        weight loss injections
        weight loss in cats
        weight loss in dogs
        weight loss image simulator

Add the "s" - so you have "weight loss is," and:

        weight loss is not linear
        weight loss issues
        weight loss is 80 diet
        weight loss isogenics
        ...

        You get the idea.

You can also enter one of the suggested terms to get even more suggestions. If I type "weight loss image":

        weight loss imagery
        computer generated weight loss
        motivational weight loss images
        ...

I should've done this at the beginning, but I just tried to expand on ccmusicman's idea, "weight loss before wedding." I typed in "weight loss before" and got a few more ideas.

        weight loss before pregnancy
        weight loss before labor
weight loss before and after stories

Once you have several ideas, you can load your word list into Google's keyword tool (or another tool of your choice) and do further research.

Hope this gives you a few ideas.

The words that rank only for a few searches a month are your secondary words that you target with an article instead of registering as a domain. What I would do is use the Wonder Wheel to break the big niches down write down what come up and then input them in your Keyword tool

ccmusicman and grayambition totally have the right idea, you can pick any niche you want and keep zooming in tighter and tighter until you have narrowed down the exact group you are looking for, of course you will be targeting a smaller and smaller group the more you zoom in.
