I am just getting around to having my site complete, and I installed Google Analytics on it, I'm new to IMing however...so I just wanted to make a quick thread and ask you guys what some good beginner 'goals' are to shoot for regarding my site...both short-term, and long-term goals actually, if you would.

Such as, how many visitors a day should you have?

What is a good average time on site to have?

What is a decent bounce rate to consider?

etc. etc., or - whatever else you would like to include.

Thanks in advance

Bre

Visitors and time on site are objective, but you should definitely make sure your bounce rate is below 40% preferably under 30% which is pretty awesome if you achieve this. Also build yourself a nice list.

Well, I achieved that bounce rate within the first week lolz, but now its like 50-something...so I'll be keeping an eye on that then. Also, I'm not exactly building a list quite yet...I was just going to focus on writing/creating good quality articles to submit, some decent traffic, and hopefully my first sales soon. Then focus on the next best thing, which I suppose will be a list of some sort (no idea what yet).

Anyhow, hope that would be allright for starters.

What your goals are will depend on the purpose of your site.

I guess IN GENERAL a good beginner goal would be:

Get 1 person to visit my site
    or
    Make 1cent.

lmao well I second that..I will do a little happy dance when I make my first $1.00 online, then &10, $50, $100, $1000 and on up lolz.

I meant though for more so the long-term. Like, a good day-to-day goal to achieve consistently.

Also, anyone know of a decent rate for new vs. returning visitors?

      Thanks again,

    anyone heard of this?

"By using G00gle Analytics for your web stats, g00gle tracks your user bounce rates and will negatively or positively influence your rankings based on this data. Search G00gle for "g00gle bounce factor" for more details."

    Is that really true?

I want the real truth when visitors come into my site so I will be testing out a different metric. SEOJournal says Yahoo Analytics, Woopra and Clickey are better than GA. the problem is sometimes you cannot compare both during the same month.

I heard something similar on another forum, and while it sounds thought-provoking, I'm not sure it's entirely true.

I often use GA and Statcounter on my sites, and am starting to like Statcounter better.

There is no such thing as a good or a bad bounce rate determined purely by the number. A good bounce rate is "did the visitor do what i wanted them to do."

If you want visitors to navigate through your site then you want a low bounce rate. If your objective is to get the visitor to your squeeze page aand leave, then you want a high bounce rate.

Everything you measure should be judged on a page basis and not a global one, unless that somehow fits what you are trying to find out.

IMO, the most useful data is what keywords brought them to what page and how long did they stay on that page. You can learn a lot from that.

    hey,

I think it depend on how is your site one of my friend have an seo website and he will get about 1 or 2k visitors daily and this is not a bad traffic. so i think if you do some good seo work and promote your website than you will get more traffic.

    good luck
