Squidoo For More Backlinks?

I was building a squidoo lens recently and realized that they have a module that allows you to put an RSS feed in your lens. If you're building a lens related to your blog (or some other site of yours that has a feed) then you should put that feed in your lens. This will give you an easy way to get more backlinks.

Yes, a newbie tip primarly... But it should help somebody who has overlooked it.

  • RSS feeds in Squidoo lenses actually do not provide backlinks because they are no follow links. They are for human benefit, not search engines.

  • RSS on squidoo is javascript.
    We all know that search engines don't or can't run javascripts, so they can't count those links.

    But...what if they can??
    What if we don't know what google can ??

    I always make lens and add RSS from my blog...and link in lens text keywords on few places.

    • Of course the engines could parse javascript if they wanted. Browsers parse javascript, and Microsoft owns IE, so we can assume that MSN can parse javascript.

      But here's why they don't...Javascript is "client side", which means the users' computers run the javascript, as opposed to the site's server.

      This would cause a great deal more power for the engines CPUs, plus open them up to any number of security issues.

      If you want to use Squidoo for links, you'll just need to do it the old fashioned way and insert them "by hand".

    If you check the cached version of a Squidoo lens on Google, you will see that where the RSS feed should be, it instead says "fetching RSS feed...please stand by". This makes RSS feeds on a Squidoo lens about useless from a "for Google" perspective.

    However, the Google Blog Search module is great...but still, those are no-follow links. Google CAN read those feeds tho. Also, Google Blog Search gives you a little more control over which of your blog posts get shown.

    For example, I can put:

    blogurl:mysite.com "squidoo rss feeds"

    Into the search field for a Google blog search module and it will return posts from my blog with that phrase in it.

    Granted, your blog needs to be indexed in the Google Blog Search Engine for this to work. If its not, you can ping it here:

    Squidoo has a new module out now called "Feed My Search". This one is kind of interesting, tho it seems to still be a little "glitchy". These links are also no-follow, but this module offers a little more flexibility. Basically, what it does is turn a Google search into an RSS feed.

    So, if you were making a lens about yourself, you could use the Feed My Search module to return and display regularly updating Google listings about you (or your blog, or your site, or your product, etc etc).

    On a new lens of mine I tried this new module. I set it to search for and display Google items about my product. It's good exposure for my affiliates efforts...and for me. I like it so far.

    Regardless of backlinks, RSS feeds are really great for bringing quality traffic to your site. I won't make a lens without one =)

    As for gaining backlinks (the no no-follow kind).... nothing beats a good ol' HTML link from within the content of your lens. Or, from the description area for your RSS feed, Google Blog feed, or Feed My Search feed, you can simply say something like:

    Latest posts from mysupersite.com

    And link to your site.
