How Real Successful Internet Entrepreneurs Work

I found a link on Twitter to this blog post on Daniel Scocco's Daily Blog Tips blog.

He interviewed 12 successful internet entrepreneurs, and it really opened my eyes as to how much they actually work and care about their jobs.

Interview: 12 Top Online Entrepreneurs Share How Hard They Work

The people he questioned are Darren Rowse, Rand Fishkin, Aaron Wall, Neil Patel, Chris Pearson, Shawn Collins, Yaro Stark, Jonathan Volk, Dan Schawbel, Chris Garrett, Collis Ta'eed, and Trent Ham.

Their answers seemed to be pretty uniform all around. The thing that surprised me, but not really, was how all of them treat their internet work as a job, not just as a part time hobby. Many of them work way more than 40 hours a week.

I know when I discovered internet marketing, I thought it would be an easy way to make lots of money only working a couple of hours a day, but over time I have found that this is very tough to do if you truly want to be successful in this field.

I hope you read this and truly understand that it takes work to become successful rather than thinking that you can hit a button and make money like most of the programs and WSOs promise these days.

Now quit reading and get to work!

That was a good find. It's very true. I thought the same thing about internet marketing. I'll just work a couple hours a day and be a six figure earner in no time. NOPE! I thought that way, because the gurus tell you that crap in their sales copy.

I get checks every 2 weeks from CB, but they are not in the thousands of dollars yet. Trust me.

    Anyway, good find.

    Peace,

    Shane

I appreciated Yaro’s honest response about how many hours he *really* works in a week. If you’re consistently spending 110 hours a week “working”, I think it’s time to read a quality time management book.
totally agree with this guy right here...I think most of them that say 80+ hours are "control freaks" who need to be in charge and do a whole slew of things themselves.

not saying that u don't need to work hard at some points and stuff, but with proper time/team management/hiring u can lay off alot of ur work hours.

That post does show that most of them work that much, but it doesn't show how big their team is, what they outsource and what not.

That's a nice share and especially good to remind those who may still have
visions of fast riches dancing in their head in order to ground them back into reality.

Although a healthy mindset and attitude toward business is important, unrealistic optimism can be deadly if it leads to not taking the business seriously.

I've heard some other warriors say, "Treat your business like a hobby and it will pay you like a hobby. Treat it like a business and it will pay you like a business."-- I agree.

I always enjoy collaborations like you're sharing here where the common thread is success in business. Lots to take away!

To refrence one of the above replies. People I know call me a workaholic "control freak" as I have my hands in everything in my business and often do the "mudane" tasks myself just so they get done.

That all being said I make a HELL of alot more monies than anybody I know.

So perhaps there is something to be said for working hard. (despite popular opinion of course....)

This is how I do a lot of things right now to. Everything except the graphics. I've gotta remember that if Bill Gates or Steve Jobs tried to do it all themselves we wouldn't have Microsoft or Apple today. I guess that holds true for basically every company. There comes a time to let go but I can't do it on a lot of things. I just feel the a lot of people won't care like I do. But if I keep this mentality I am not going to grow my business much more.

I read this article this morning. Good stuff.

Just shows you that no matter how many things you see that offer quick results and quick money just don't work.

No matter the program, course, software, etc. that you use it won't get you instant results. You have to put in hours and lots of them to make anything you do or use successful.

      Thanks for chiming in, Greg.

I bet you do a lot more focused, purposeful work than others may do, as well.

I think this is also key, because sometimes I'll be "working" for hours, then end it only to find out that I really didn't get anything done because I was checking e-mail, forums, fruitless "research", etc etc.

Not all work is created equal. I think this is important to understand.

Busyness is not the same thing as being productive.

They all work way too hard.

What's the point of making that much money if you work 80 hours per week? Stupid.

I work a few hours per day max unless I'm releasing a new product or something.

No this thinking I do like. I've worked my ass off, and I still do when need be. But fact is, far too many over work themselves for no reason, too many find work to do that doesn't need to be done, and many forget how to leverage a damn thing.

It's true what they say......If you are doing a job that you love (even working a ton of hours) doesn't feel like a job at all. These guys obviously love what they do and working 60+ hours a week is more like FUN than WORK.

    Thank you bro,

    bookmarked it...

these people are inspirational to me, and I too learned
that hard work is the key to success in this business.

Most of the hard work, I learned, is in the "THINKING"
part...not so much the labor. Anyways, this is awesome.
