Mario, Desire is nice to have but you are going to have to add hard work to the mix.
You are going to have to:
1. Find Buyer Keyword Phrases
2. Set up your cash collection system ie. affiliate product either on your own domain (have to spend a little money here) or direct linking to the product page.
3. Get your pages indexed quickly if you use your own domain
4. Get unlimited one-way links and some two-way links to high authority sites.
And then after you have done this once, you start over and do it again and again and again and .........

All the above takes a lot of time, ability, some smarts.
Desire can only take you so far and then reality sinks in and you have to want to dig in, work hard and stay focused.

That's what I was talking about. If your using Google Adwords to get your advertising going and your paying big dollar to Google, making $18 as an affiliate can make it tough to make a profit, but if your gross is $10,000 and your net is $6,000 your doing pretty good to start.

Yes I agree, however if you can't make a decent living as an affiliate then you'll struggle to make money as a product owner, and vice-versa.

That is true, but also remember that all the desire in the world won't make you swim if you've got bricks tied to your ankles.

Affiliate marketing is arguably the easiest business to start, but as already pointed out: It is also arguably the hardest to maintain and succeed in.

Why?

Low barrier of entry. The "easier" it is, the harder it will actually be due to the competition (generally speaking of course). It's almost like a self fullfilling prophecy, where its' very own appeal is what kills its' own future (for some!).

The trick is dabbling in numerous markets, finding small pockets of profit and letting all these small profit streams accumulate to make a good living.

However, the internet's real beauty is leverage, and it's far easier to leverage other affiliates than to be one yourself. It's also far easier to partner with people who have the assets that you want.

Affiliate marketing also becomes easier when you build assets...such as a mailing list, an authority site, a list of partners in crime etc. That way, if something goes belly up you will always have real people to contact and do business with.
