When is backlinking a waste of time?

I have 10 Ezine Articles up, driving about 3 hits a day to my website. It's all I've got right now; I'm a new father and I don't have the time I want to devote to this whole "getting my rent paid" thing that I'm trying to do online. So time-effectiveness is really important to me. The question is this:

8 of my 10 articles are in the #1 through #3 slots in Google for their keywords. I haven't done anything except pepper the keywords in the articles to get this to happen. But it's happened, and I'm happy. At this point, have I achieved my goal? Is there any need to do backlinking or social bookmarking on the articles themelves, or is my time better spent on more ways to drive traffic to the page itself?

Thanks!

Michael Danielson

Have you checked to see how many people are searching those keywords?

I'd wait until it looks like the articles are dropping in serps and then start bookmarking them.

Right! Can't do much better than the top three spots. But do some keyword research and expand your efforts to new keywords. Too many people give up and miss out on the lions share of traffic on the related keywords.

Start with Google's External Keyword tools then you can move on to paid services like Micro Niche Finder.

GETTING to the top of the SERP's can sometimes be easy.

STAYING there can often be a challenge. Keep an eye on things and see how they hold up over time. I would still keep building backlinks. It can't hurt.

When you aren't using keywords in your backlinks.

Unless you're trying to rank for "the facts behind", or "help yourself", you need to change those links to keywords you are trying to rank for. It would probably be a good idea if you picked up a book on seo somewhere to get a better idea of what you should be doing.
