Wordpress Membership Plugin That Sync's With Forum?

Hey,

Am working on a membership site and the main website is going well and is all planned out!

HOWEVER!!! Ive come across a damn techy problem which im sure must exist somewhere but after searching ive only turned up trumps.

So what i want to do is create a premium section on my wordpress blog and then also have a two tier free/premium on a forum too and vary the access for each!

Now they need to syncronize so that it's the same user/pass for both and also auto change the status's for both and really be hand's off!

Ive seen this done similarly before however the forum really did suck and is not easy to use nor admin.

Anything like this exist or am i stuck with a massive custom coding job?

      Hey Mark,

I don't have a definitive answer for you but you might try the guys over at iThemes.com. I know they are using the SimplePress plugin for their forum but am not sure what they are using for the membership side of things.

With their system, you login to your member account and then can gain access to the member-only forum without having to login again.

          Hey Mark

I believe they are using a combo of simplepress and amember.

I am using wishlistproducts and find it very easy to use, i plan on adding simplepress as the forum.

          Good Luck

          Jim

Don't have anything installed except wordpress and could actually even use something different now i think about it and keep the same design and a similar layout as it will be on a sub directory.

      That's the solution I want.

Basically, I want Wordpress and vBulletin to share login information, so whenever you change your password on one it changes on the other. I'd also like them to share login state, so logging into either logs you into both.

And once that's accomplished, I can start thinking about how to integrate that with PayPal subscription payments so accounts get updated according to subscription status.

Yep seeing as vbulletin is the best forum script in my opinion im surprised that no solution for this forum setup has been posted!

Maybe marketer's are too cheap lol

You pay for what you get.

I hate Simpleress. It looks like crap and it's hard to use. Maybe I'm just not seeing anyone who's set it up "properly," but if it's that hard to do, I just can't be arsed.

I haven't used SimplePress (yet) but I do spend a good deal of time inside of the iThemes customer support forum (which is built by SimplePress) and really like it!

What is it about SimplePress that makes you say it "looks like crap?" I'm not saying there aren't more aesthetically pleasing forum solutions out there but it looks good to me... especially if it's going to be used inside of a protected members area where the real focus is on content/easy navigation.

Primarily that every time I see it, the site has crammed it into the same space that would normally be taken up by a blog post, which is much too narrow for a decently usable forum display.

Nanacast + Member Lock Plugin Documentation + Simpleress

Simple press plugin uses the same data base as the wordpress blog which makes the kind of model you are talking about quick and easy since it does it all right out of the box without having to do any custom development or hacking.

Check out simplepress if you don't want to pay a coder to make the integration mod.
Go with vbulletin is you want the best solution, there are a few wp-vb bridges at vbulletin.org, or check out freelance sites and have someone make you a plugin to suite your needs. I'm estimating it will rung 150-200$ for a custom vb-wp integration mods.

good luck, let us know what you end up doing

If you have not found the solution i would suggest to you simple press forum plug-in for wordpress. I use this plug-in in its simplest of forms for some of my websites. Seems to work very well.

I think the vbulletin/WordPress bridge is free:
Complete Wordpress/Vbulletin Bridge - Share Users And Postings - vBulletin.org Forum

SimplePress is great because it's free, but they could really do with hiring a designer to create some decent looking skins.

Apologies for continuing this off topic, but WordPress is no better or worse than any other similar product, the fact it's open source is normally seen as a benefit to security, not a hindrance as the code is made available for peer review, allowing problems in the code to be spotted and fixed before release by a much larger pool of people than a commercial product.

As somebody that used to get involved a lot more with post-compromise investigation, cleanup and hardening of websites, I can safely say that with wordpress (like almost every other large mature open source project) almost every compromise was down to poor or lazy installation (shortcuts taken to get it working) or user error (social engineering, password sharing etc) thankfully code based exploits are very low and no better or worse than the majority of similar projects (commercial or open source).
