Hi,

As you probably know, 20% of your activity
produces 80% of the total results.

I thought it'd be a GREAT IDEA for all of us
to share our 20% activity that produces 80% of our results
(or close to it)...

...So what is your 20% that creates the 80% results?

      LOL, nice.

Showering, dressing, a bite to eat, driving, showing up at the office. Was it Woody Allen who said showing up is 90%?

Setting up PPC campaigns, writing, coming up with ideas, taking action, interacting with customers (providing valuable customer service), testing, tracking, tweaking...

Staying away from forums, blogs, youtube, mysapce, dead end relationships, drinking.... that's the other 80%.

After Drinking a Rockstar Energy Drink at around midnight to one in the morning I'm most productive and probably get at least 80% of my work for the day done.

The trick is to identify when you're not going to be at your peak performance and just go find something else to do. Thats an advanced skill though and usually takes years of wasted time to master.

Interesting OP...but what data supports it? I tend to take stuff that's common knowledge and accepted as truth....and usually go the other way. Cuz I don't like to hang with sheep....I like to sell them.

I've had days I've woken up feelin' awesome....the world was my oyster and all the other cliches....and didn't sell shit. Did not make one penny.....and I am sure I gave more then 20%.

I've had days I've woke up with a hangover so bad I am pretty sure I saw white light and dead relatives..and some how...I managed to make a big score inspite of myself....and on those days I've probably given minus percentages. True.

Percentages mean nothing to me. It's a fallacy used to impress chicks at cocktail parties...because the only percentage that matters aint a percentage....IT IS THE DOLLARS YOU MADE.

If your list of 1000 peeps....converts at 20%...that's great.

If my list of 1000 peeps converts at 2%.....that might be better.

      Why?

Cuz my 2% conversion...was for $5K a pop.....and your 20% conversion was for a seven dollar ebook on Butterflys And Why They Fly.....you'se sold for $7 bucks.

Who had the better conversion rate? YOU'se did.

      Who made more money?

      Vince did.

      Lousy percentage and all.

Show me the money. Cuz that's the only percentage that means a damn thing in the big picture. My percentage pays the bills...and affords me a lifestyle I want to live.

20% of chump change.....don't mean jack.

Success isn't always quantified in numbers alone....or effort. It's quantified in the money you'se have in your bank accounts.

    That's an awesome post, VegasVince.

    Results are all that matter.

I can't answer the OP cause I am still finding my feet with
this making money stuff. I don't have any systems to share
    or calculate percentages from.

Although the 20-80% rule is true on my part, I really cannot find this rule anywhere?

I wonder whether you are confusing it with the observation that 20% of affiliates produces 80% of affiliate income?

This rule has definately proven true in my life and businesses. Starting off with a basic marketing plan for any project we are going to pursue is the 20% that produces the roughly 80% of our results.

This does not have to be elaborate, just answering basic questions about what we want to accomplish, our objective, how we will do this, competition, what makes us unique and other questions like this.

Really brings about a focus and reality to what it will take to get where we want to be.

    Hi,

    I don't do rules

As long as that's ok with everyone?

Seriously, to answer your question it's putting pages up on the internet. If it wasn't so mind-numbingly boring I wouldn't have to spend the other 80% of the time day-dreaming, goofing off, playing games, staring out of the window, sunbathing, feeding ducks, deleting files off the PC, moving paper around, shopping, 'research'....

Adding fresh content and updating blogs and sites produce the 20% here. After all, don't they all say content is what counts?

      Hi Guys

Maybe I'm crazy or plain stupid but the way I figure it - I'm still working on finding out what my 20% is.

The way I think is if you're not recreating yourself you're not refreshing that 20% pot.

Life as a bit of a journey - sometimes you know where you're going oftentimes you don't but the thing I have found is that sometimes it's more fun just getting there - if you know what I mean.

The day I finally reach that 20% 'set in stone' is the day I'll give up internet marketing.

If I was to be more square about this thread I would say that the 20% of productivity can only be measured by returns which don't always have to be monetary.

    BJ,

    Great question.

As I thought about it, it must be the attention I pay to making sure that past clients continue to know about what I'm up to.

I've been in business for 27 years and some of my best clients and sources of referrals have known me or of me for 12-15 years - or were referred by someone in that category.

I've had a weekly email newsletter for nine years, I'm highly visible online, in bookstores and libraries.

I do my best to send "thank you"s for every referral I hear of.

    Hope that helps!

I hate to say this, but I am the exception to that rule.

80% of my activity produces 67% of my income...my writing.

Yes, it's time consuming and it took a long time to build to the point where
I don't have to write as much, but it is still my main activity in my day.

So yes, I am the exception to the rule.
