NEED HELP-Creating my PDF IM product

Hello Warriors.

I'm in the process of creating my first IM product.

It's going to be a PDF with videos and text.

I understand that I can start with Microsoft Word, and then convert it to PDF.

However I'm clueless as to how to create one of these effectively.

  1. How do I create a table of contents that's clickable?
  2. How do I add youtube videos to my PDF.
  3. What's the best/easiest way to sell this product. Clickbank or another method.
  4. "BRANDING?" or copyrighting my EBOOK so it can't be copied, distributed, altered etc. Maybe "trademarking" is the word I'm looking for?
Thanks so much in advance. It's time for me to create my first product.

I'm totally clueless about creating these things.

I have microsoft word open right now

Hi there, for converting the pdf you can either use openoffice or youconvertit.com. for the videos into the pdf you can always just put the links to the videos in the pdf's and host the videos on your server. If you are not sure how to do this you can easily just link to the youtube videos directly. That works too.

For clickable table of contents check out Creating a PDF document with clickable links to chapters on contents page? | Ask MetaFilter.

you can also try to find a video on youtube that covers this. One warrior actually made a WSO covering this topic as well as templates for PDF's. you can search it on the forum as well.

Clickbank is a good way to sell the pdf but with that method you need a website. hope this helps

I can't sell my product on clickbank unless I have a website? A squeeze page with it's own domain isn't enough?

First off do yourself a favor and go to OpenOffice.org Download their office suite and use "Writer" It is easy, fast and you can see what your web pages are going to look like by Saving As Html in addition to your regular save.

Second, why don't you do a written version, an audio version and a video version of your product? 3 versions to sell or wrap them all up in a super duper gold version of your product.

Now for selling it ... look through this forum, get educated. You can see I have been here for years. Rarely do I say something unless it is to help someone. You do need help and more than can be put in one post.

Just putting something up on Clickbank is not going to sell for you. CB products are sold by other people. Affiliates need help selling things so along with any CB product you'd have to have a super sales page that draws people to the buy button like fleas to a dog.

Further your affiliates would need your help in the form of pre-written ads, banners and the like. You would have to have a system set up to take care of your people.

As you can see you are a ways away from being able to promote your product through affiliate marketing.

    But don't dispair!!!

The fact that you are making a product and the fact that you are here makes me think you are on the road to success.

Now go do some research because it is the foundation of your success.

Start with researching your market. Who are you selling to? What are their ages? Are they buying similar products to what you are selling? Where do they hang out online? offline? What WORDS do they use when searching for a product like yours.

Words ... the right words are extremely important for your domain name, your product title, headlines and throughout the content of your product/site and in the advertising you will do.

Don't be overwhelmed. Just take it a step at a time.

After you have gotten into the heads of your target market, come back to the Warrior forum read, read and read some more. Use the search box to research your questions and read those answers.

After your research you will know the right questions to ask.

Very judgemental telling me I'm not ready. And who are you to tell me I need to research more about my own product?

You say you've been on here for years, but you have 1 post.

I clearly stated this was a text and video product, which you told me I should make...

This is probably the most irrelevant response I've ever received.

      Who are you?

The easiest way to create a PDF from Word is with PrimoPDF. It's f.ree and just installs as a printer. When you want to make your PDF, you just click "print" and then select "PrimoPDF" from the list of printers. PrimoPDF keeps any links that are in the document, so it will preserve your clickable Table of Contents (TOC).

For clickable TOC, you just have to play around with the TOC settings in Word. If you google "how to make clickable TOC in Word" you should find a good article on it.

As for the video, I would just host the video on your website and then link from the book to the video. If you want to keep people who haven't paid from viewing the videos you can either host them at a random url or put them behind a password wall using a program like aMember.

As for stopping people from illegally sharing your work, if you find a solution let us all know. Unfortunately, all you can really do is protect it behind a paywall/password wall and put (c) 2010 on it. If you want to get really hardcore, print it out, put it in an envelope, take it to the post office and have them postmark over the seal, then mail it to yourself (don't ever open it, take it to your lawyer if you need it opened). Then at least you have evidence of when it was first created.

If you need more help, hit me up on Twitter @RobertZuma

Good luck out there, and congrats on your first product!

Cool. This will help many others interested in product creation as well. Great advice.

How do I host videos via my hosting? I use bluehost.

Just convert the file to .avi or .mp4 and upload it into a folder you create like mysite.com/vids/myvid.avi

then you can just link directly to the video.

When people click the link , it should automatically play, so long as they have a media player plugin (most browsers come standard with them now).

I use BlueHost too, big fan. You can create a folder and upload the file in the "File Manager" section of cPanel.

The only real downsides to this method is the user needs the media player plugin, and that the page becomes the file, so you can't link from it back to your site; you have to rely on the user to click "Back" in their browser. An alternative is to use a video player plugin for a builder like WordPress, Joomla, DreamWeaver, etc.

i'm pretty sure that both MS word and Open Office have built in PDF generators. there shouldn't be any need to download anything else. hosting a video on your site is pretty easy too. it's as simple as creating it with camtasia and embedding it within the html. just make sure that bluehost is giving you enough or unlimited bandwidth, as videos will take more room up.

You can upload a ZIP file with your videos inside. Then protect your file with a password and share it only with your buyers.

I think this is the easiest way

i think you would need to use a simple membership script, instead of the standard paypal "buy now" buttons. if the site is created with wordpress, then use a membership plugin for wordpress (there's a number of them but i can't remember names off the top of my head. check with google) only people who have paid will be allowed to download your ebook and view the video. which would be in the form of protected blog posts or blog pages (pages are better). or you can use amember which will protect individual pages or entire directories that you specify by using the "new_rewrite" protect option. this is how i protect the content in the site i have in my signature.

    Hi Friend,

I am going to address your questions one by one.
    1. How do I create a table of contents that's clickable?
    2. How do I add youtube videos to my PDF.
I believe Zeze got this covered.

    3. What's the best/easiest way to sell this product. Clickbank or another method.
    4. "BRANDING?" or copyrighting my EBOOK so it can't be copied, distributed, altered etc. Maybe "trademarking" is the word I'm looking for?
    3. Depend on what niche your product will be in. If it is IM related, then the WSO forum is the best place to start. But for other niches, you should try to build a list first through PPC. Yahoo search marketing can let you put up an ad for as low as $60.

What I do is build a list then find potential partners with the same or greater list count to ad swap. Then with a good JV relationship, I recruit these people as affiliates before I actually launch my product on CB. That way, I know I have affiliates and I already have a subscriber base that is waiting for my product.

    4. Ever heard of a protected pdf file? Not password protected. Only protected. This means the file cannot be copied or printed. Of course, it cannot be edited. You can change the security settings of a file you know. I do this through Acrobat 9.0.
I can't sell my product on clickbank unless I have a website? A squeeze page with it's own domain isn't enough?
A salespage is okay. I know that CB has specific instructions to their merchants like offering a guarantee and others. So be sure to check that out before you put your product up.

How do I upload just a video to my server
That's quite simple. You can do that by uploading the video through the file manager of your hosting or through FTP software. Just think of your video as a file. You do not need Youtube to host it. You can host it yourself.

    Hope I have helped,

    Aira

Openoffice works great and its just a 1 button to click to save the file as a pdf. As for clickable TOC, if i remember correctly you can use the "bookmark" function in openoffice to get it to work. A simple google search should provide the exact answer.
