Is this a clever or dumb use of subdomains?

A while back someone gave me an idea. I then went out and bought the domain name: atgreatsavings.com

Is it clever or dumb to use several subdomains like this?

shoes.atgreatsavings.com
cellphone.atgreatsavings.com
necklaces.atgreatsavings.com
monitors.atgreatsavings.com
memorycard.atgreatsavings.com etc

  • I have used some subdomains with pretty good success for getting listed. I think they are a viable option. One of my sites is actually just the domain name so that I hit the keyword phrase I was going for. The actual .com just redirects to the sub pages.

  • My friend does this. It works out quite well for him. Its great for getting niche traffic.

    I actually thought of the same idea not long ago so I could save $ on buying domains...but I presumed subdomains dont rank well.

    • Yes - it's a good thing to do IF you are in a niche that suits the method.
