Doing some keyword research for a CPA offer and after checking out the top 10 spots on G........the sites listed have lots of backlinks to them but only 1 is actually SEO'd for the keyword. The 1 site is a PR1 and has only 130 backlinks showing.

No keyword in title,H1 or description......for any of the other 9 sites.

What would you do?

  • Well, can you get an exact keyword match domain, or can you get a dense keyword domain? You say there is only 1 other site SEO'd for the keyword, but how many is google showing you? To give a quality recommendation, we'd really need more information.

    • for long term biz, the best is keyword+branding the best of both worlds
  • Based on what information you're giving us....I have to wonder why you're even asking....doesn't this seem incredibly easy?

    Go for it, of course!

  • If the other sites are large sites with a high Domain Pr whats happening is the internal link juice is carrying the site high in the serps. I would take a shot at it. You are only out 10 bucks if you have hosting already. Look at it a Market Test.
What I would do is run the wonder wheel to grab related words for other pages.

    • You've only mentioned the competitiveness of the keyword. What about traffic and adwords CPC?

Assuming they're both of decent value than it sounds like a good keyword to target.
  • Based on this limited information... I would say

    YES

  • Hi...

Although the other 9 competitors may not be as optimized as the one competitor that is, the number of backlinks , Page Rank, and Domain Age do greatly effect how easy it will be to beat them.

I mean, those 9 competitors have to have some optimization (albeit unintententional) if they are ranking on the first page for a partcular keyword phrase. How many backlinks are we talking about for them? 50-100? 100-1000? 1000+

It does matter. So without knowing those stats, there's no way of really answering your question correctly.

    Much Success,
