Complete List of Traffic Sources

Hello Warriors,

I would like to compile a list of all the traffic source methods that can bring conversions. Once I have this list I will then compile a list of places to go for each method

I will start the list and as people suggest missing sources I will update this post.

So here goes the start:

PPC (pay Per Click) - This is where you pay a set fee for each person who clicks your advert. This can be from search engines or website networks.

PPV/CPV (Pay/Cost Per View) - This is typically when you advert is displayed as a pop under/over.

Article Marketing - Submitting articles to article directories

Article distribution - Submitting article to a service that automatically distributes your article.

Press Releases - Releasing a news story with a link back to your site across a news network.

P2P - Releasing files on P2P networks for free with a link back to your site.

Offline Classifieds - Making classified ad offline with a link to your site

Offline Noticeboards - Putting up postcards on public noticeboards linking back to your site

Online Classifieds - Posting an ad to online classified sites like craigslist

Forums - Participating in forums and adding a signature link

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) - Getting site listing in natural search engine listings

CPM (cost per thousand) - This is usually banner advertising or display advertising on websites.

Newsletters/ Ezine - Many popular online newsletter allow for sponsorship and will put a link back to your site.

Directory Listings - There are several online directories that actually can bring traffic to your site by paying for a listing.

Mass E-Mail - Sending out an advertising email to either a rented, generated or compiled list.

Social Networking - Creating profiles and submitting content that links back to you site on popular social networking sites

Blog Commenting - Finding popular relevant blog posts and linking back to your site in the post.

Viral Reports - Creating a report to giveaway, that the people you give it to, in turn, give it away to others.

Host Beneficiary - Contacting others who already have a customer base and arranging a way to put your product infront of them. Can be in the form of a joint venture, or giving something away free to someone elses list in return for caputing their details.

Video Marketing - Creating videos and submitting them to popular video websites

Image Marketing - Submitting pictures to popular image sharing websites that link back to your main site

Q&A Websites - Finding questions on Q&A sites that are relevant to your site and linking back in the answer.

Web 2.0 User Submitted Content Sites - Submitting content to web 2.0 sites that links back to your main site.

Affiliates - Offering a comission on sales for affiliate marketers to refer sales

Which ones have I missed? I am looking for sources as in the type. So for instance I have listed PPC as a type, so all other PPC style advertising sites will be covered by that. Once I get a full list of types, I will continue research and try to create a list of specific sites for each to share with everyone.

TV Commercials - Creating commercials for internet or offline TV stations

Radio Adverts - Online or offline radio stations

Competitions - Sponsoring competitons on websites or radio usually to get website mentioned.

Direct Mail - Sending out letters or postcards with link back to your website

Free Software - Create useful software for free like a small application or a toolbar. You could load part of you site inside a frame within the software, display ads or even re-direct users.

Referral System - Such as a tell a friend script on site so people can spread the word about your site.
