Site Flipping Question-About site with its own product

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can give me a clue as to the best way to create a website.

Here's the scenario: I have a brand new, never released,product/ebook written by me, in a fairly popular niche.

I would like to create a website to market this product and then turn around and flip the site & product rights.

I previously set up a site to sell an ebook, but all it was, was a 1 page site with order page.

If you were to buy a website that had its own product to sell-what format would you like to see as a buyer?

ie-should it have a blog with articles related to the product? Should it be a multi page site?

Please advise,

TIA

    hi tia

Flipping a site with a complete unique ebook is one thing buyers look for, sites that flip well are usually wp-sites with a customized premium theme.
And yes usually 10-15 unique articles on the niche itself, with regards pages usually the norm such as contact privacy etc
Try to find a decent keyword to base your site around nothing too hard to dominate

    hope helps

Go to flippa.com and see what types of sites are selling (not listing, but selling). See how they are laid out and what they offer. Then after you KNOW what buyers want, come back here to the warriors for hire section. Find a good offer to build out complete mini-sites. Tell them what you want. Give them some examples you liked from flippa. I prefer to use mini-site-guru. Excellent service from those guys. Good luck.

Would be interesting to see what you are basing this opinion on. New sites with customised themes, a few unique articles are very hard to flip for a profit regularly unless you know what you are doing or have a good outsourcing unit. Yes, a ton of them sell, but a ton also don't sell.

@ OP - your best option would be to get a nice minisite designed for your product, and then make a choice whether to market it, or sell it new. The unique product would be in your favour. I would recommend marketing the product first and seeing how it does. Once you have some revenue (consistent preferably) to show a buyer you will command a far higher price.

Feel free to drop me a message if you have any questions.

        I'm
basing this on what works for me i do agree that its not just about throwing together a load of crap and trying to make a quick buck. yes i do have a very good outsourcing unit i use.

Obviously if you market the site with age, traffic and
        monetization
that is paying monthly they become worth a lot more but complete new site's do sell, i average $120 a site which is good for me.

Not saying that i have had a few that just
        do not
        sell period.
But with a bit of research and time in putting your site together correctly, well you should get the rewards that you deserve.

        The unique
        ebook
        is a big bonus though

Is that $120 net (after fees + listing) or gross? If that was average net profit (taking into account unsold listings too) you would be doing well.

I'm curious as to why you would suggest a WP site for a unique ebook? Good incentive, yes, but add enough value to be worth the time spent on ebook? Probably not. Surely a sales page for a product would be better?

    Hi Tia,

It sounds like you want to do the WSO flip? (we've recently blogged about the ethics of this!).

From the stats, a blog fetches an average of approximately $100 more than a one page site, so if you can rely on the numbers alone going for a content site would be the logical choice to make.

I've included a screen grab of some of the stats for the last 30 days for both blogs and one page sites - I hope it helps

    Justin

Actually, I see a lot more minisites being sold on Flippa to sell a unique ebook than blogs. I have bought quite a few of them myself. I would go with a very well written sales page to sell the ebook.

There's too much talk online about themes and what a site should look like. If you have a look at flippa's just sold section, the best returns are on sites that are generating an income.

That lifestyle theme that has become the flippa default for new sites is actually counter productive to making sales. They look pretty, but that's about all.

They all tend to be loaded with too many offers and the usual outcome is that visitors don't click on any of them.

Set up a simple blog with good content, your ebook offer and build some traffic.

It really all boils down to traffic!

Throw up a blog and start testing your market. In two weeks you'll have an idea of where your site sits in your niche.
