Can this business be grown using IM?

Hey guys,

My father in law, who is in the cabinet business, recently purchased a EZ CNC machine to do some custom carving. Basically, a CNC can carve/cut out any shape, any design, and pretty much about anything (but, he uses it in wood.) Right now, his basic use for it is to cut out letters for a local artist who buys these large letters for some purpose or another.

That being said, the cost of the machine was enough for a new Honda Civic, and while he is recouping his investment, he is doing it slowly. I personally think he's sitting on a GOLDMINE, but, we have to figure out how to market it. Any thoughts?

What he designs can be shipped easily.

He has no website, or any other internet presence. I am not doing this to make money for me, but, to grow his business. (One added benefit is that I can show him that I have brought him extra business - would be a great sideline for me, just getting paid commission for online sales.)

Thanks.

Jeremy

    Hi,

Yup you can surely do it.

Since you are in Article marketing, make use of it. Put up a simple website/blog. If you are more into it, do up some videos of your finished product or some video about the product, which ever way it suit your business.

Custom services is NOT the way to go. That can certainly be offered, but you have a manufacturing capability, so you should be identifying specific, direct retail markets. Build a specific promotional campaign around a dedicated market for a niche product and skip the wholesale buyer. By going direct from manufacturing to retail, you should be able to compete on price very well, because your margins are so much higher than a wholesaler.

I used to own million dollar screenprinting operation that I sold to a larger company. Very similar mindset in production and marketing.

I adopted the very philosophy that I told you to build my business. I didn't screw around with custom, local business that was highly competitive... where every printer in town would undercut their own grandmother to get a deal at a loss. I wasn't interested in chintzy customers that would try to shop your bids and nickel and dime you to death.

Create a product line for a specific niche market, and go direct to retail.
