Adding Video to my WordPress Site?

Hi All!

I'm trying to figure out how I would upload a video to a Wordpress blog. It's my own self-hosted Wordpress blog, not a free one.

I found this plugin and I like the way the player looks:

mac-dev.net

Do anyone have experience with it or any other recommendations for a VERY SIMPLE way to add videos to my Wordpress site? I'm a complete video neophyte and need a simple way to add video (including players) to my site. I really don't want to use YouTube players.

I'd appreciate it!

Thanks,
Michelle

    Hi Michelle,

Just wondering why you don't want to use YT players on your site?

    Some answers though:

There is a media upload in wordpress, have you tried that?

If you have some kind of embed code (from wherever) then if you want to add it into the sidebar for instance, go to APPEARANCE, drag a text widget into the position you want the video, paste in the embed code and save.

If you want it in a post or page, get your post or page ready as in all the text content done, then switch the editor from visual to html and in the position where you want the video, paste in the embed code.

    Cheers

Just Upload the video to Wordpress or viddler then you can embed the HTML code in the HTML editor.

Also if you goto you-tube & type the question "how to embed video into wordpress"

You should see some videos explaining how to do it

      Thanks for your help!

      Susanne,

I was thinking that I didn't want the other videos that get promoted at the end of a YouTube video. I'm concerned about professionalism. But maybe a YouTube player isn't a problem.

That's why I asked, I thought it might be that

When you get the embed code from a video on YT you can unselect a tick box which asks if you want related videos to show.

You can also pick the size of the player (and then change those dimensions once you have the embed code, put it in a notepad to play with it before pasting it where you want it).

You can also pick the color of the player.

If you are concerned about doing that, you can also go here:

YouTube Embed Code Customizer - High Quality-Search Box and related videos options

And select what you do and don't want.

This way means you are not uploading an unnecessary plugin to your site.

If you are are not sure, why not just test it, go find a video on YT, look to see how you get the embed code, select what you want, put it on your site to see how it all looks and works. I am big fan of just trying something yourself to see how things look and work and if you don't like it then you can try something else.

        Anyways.. good luck.

          Thanks Susanne!

I may just do that and not worry about the rest of it.

I just saw a video on another site in a YT player and there were no other videos promoted at the end of the video. There was just a replay button. The player was also color coded to match the site's colors and it was sized down to fit in the sidebar (it's a Wordpress site) and it just looks really nice.

I'm a complete video neophyte and tackling the topic of online video just seems overwhelming right now. I really don't have time. But I AM going to be a snob when it it comes to professionalism because my video's professionalism is extremely important to me.

Thanks again for your help! I greatly appreciate it.

Your welcome Michelle! Do have a play yourself, it is easier than you think and yes you can play around with the embed code to get it to look how you want after you get it from YT site. If you need help with that when you get around to it, let me know.

If you want to embed a YouTube video that DOES NOT include the videos of others after yours ends, you just do this...

[1] Upload your video to YouTube
[2] Navigate to your new video page and click the "Embed" button
[3] With the options area open, make sure to uncheck the box that says, "include related videos"
[4] After that is unchecked, you can copy the embed code and paste it into your blog post (in the HTML view)

Please note, however, that while there are some definite benefits from using YouTube to host your videos (using their bandwidth, possibility of getting traffic from them, etc) you are still giving something up... CONTROL!

Marketer, Robert Plank had a blog filled with dozens upon dozens of YouTube videos and found one day that they had all disappeared. YouTube (which is owned by the big "G" and known to do whatever they want, whenever they want) banned his account with no fore-warning or explanation.

Hey my theme has a special option which allows me to just enter in the embed code and it sets the rest up itself, if you're going to be using a lot of videos might be something to consider?

      TJS1954,

I haven't done the video yet. I have a FLIP camera and need to shoot a video of myself soon. But I don't know what to do with the video once I shoot it.

I want to be able to add text at the bottom of the video, possibly music. And once I've done that, I know I need a player to be able to post it on my site.

I don't even know what format a FLIP camera shoots in. I'm hoping that whatever it is, I can convert it to Flash.

I've done some research and joined the AskMrVideo.com Web site for help. But I'm overwhelmed by the information and haven't yet seen a 1-2-3 article for shooting and uploading your first video.

I spent several hours last night and this morning, surfing around, looking for what I need. As far as I can tell, the best Flash player is at LongTailVideo.com I like the way it looks. You can see it here:

JW Player: Flash Video Player | LongTail Video | Home of the JW Player

I have two Web sites, so I'll need to buy two licenses. The price is in euros and after putting in the price into an online currency converter, I learned it would cost me about $114 for two licenses.

But I have NO idea how to set them up. After digging, I learned that there's a WordPress plugin for this player:

WordPress › JW Player Plugin for WordPress WordPress Plugins

I'm on a budget, but I don't mind buying the licenses. I just need to know that I can upload videos to my Wordpress site (via the plugin) easily. Basically, I need a video for dummies plugin. I'm NOT techie at all and am a complete video neophyte. I haven't the slightest idea how to do any of this. I just know what I want it to do.

My Web designer is working on my Wordpress sites now, so I can have her install the plugin. But I still don't know what to do afterwards. I just need to be able to upload videos I create on the fly to my site easily.

If I invest in this player and the plugin, can I easily create and upload my own videos???? THAT'S my question.

I'm a bit confused and still trying to figure it out.

        Michelle,

I always create mine as WMV so they open in Windows Media player which just about everybody has on their computer, people hate to have to download a player or a set of codec files before they can watch a video. Mine open in full screen HD but they are tutorial videos but I have some sales videos on youtube. You can make a HD WMV file in Windows movie maker and put text in them if that's what you want. You really don't have to spend any more money now if you have Windows.

you should be able to upload the video to Windows movie maker and you can put music on them in that program, do a search on youtube for warrior55100 and you will find about fifteen videos that I made with just the software that came on my computer.
