Welcome to the Warrior Forum and to Internet Marketing. You have a long road ahead of you. To get started, I highly suggest a membership into the War Room whenever you have $40 to spare. Also, you should figure out just how you want to make money online. Many other factors go into it as well but I am not awake enough to write out a lengthy post. But other Warriors here will give you great advice and point you in the right direction. Good luck!

To start with just begin reading in this forum and in the various sub-sections. Don't get too caught up in everything and get overwhelmed, though. Just learn some of the various business models that are out there. When one sounds exciting to you and you know you have the skills to work it, make a note of it.

After you have a few methods noted, try searching for more information on those methods so you can learn the ins and outs. At that point, choose one method to pursue.

Work on that until you see some results. Once you have a good grasp of that method and are seeing some success, then you can add in a different method from your list.

Don't get sidetracked by pie-in-the-sky promises or "easy buttons" - they are illusions at best and outright scams at worst. IM is a form of business and you must treat it like a business.

    Good luck,
    Tina

Well the first thing you should be doing is reading through this forum. The second thing you should do is find a course that will teach you the basics step by step. One good course or membership site (MODS I AM NOT AN AFFILIATE OF IT AND DON'T MAKE ANY MONEY FROM IT!) is Chris Farrells site - ChrisFarrellMembership.com He started out knowing nothing and now is very successful. The information there is very sound and easy to understand.

The thing is, don't do what many other people do, and that is buy all of these ebooks and courses and stuff and get overwhelmed. Just like anything else, IM takes time to learn and there is most definitley a learning curve! Focus on learning one thing at a time and understand that you will ALWAYS be learning. It never stops!

You can not agree with me all you want, but the fact is that just learning HTML isn't going to do the job. Getting a good sound course, whether free or otherwise will include how to create your webpage. Also, there are good WYSIWYG programs out there that will help you build your website. If you are going to make it in this business, you have to learn the BUSINESS. Not just HTML.

And as far as courses being a waste of time, if you don't apply what you learn, then sure, that's what they are. But if you APPLY what you learn, it makes it easier than having to do all the research yourself from scratch about the things you need to know in IM.

I absolutely disagree with this advice. If you have absolutely no clue what to do, how can you learn anything. You don't even need to learn html to make money online. You just have to have some basic understanding of it. Which you can learn from some courses. Taking courses are key but don't go into buying ebooks etc... but be apart of a membership site where there are people in the membership who can support you at the forum. The reason I recommend courses is because, that's the foundation of building solid online business. Make sure you sign up with someone who has a good reputation who can teach you want you want to learn. Also someone who already made it through what they're teaching. After having the solid foundation, you can branch out on your own and start creating your own products etc.. but learning as much as you can from the gurus is definitely a must if you want to be successful in a shorter time. Don't try to do it on your own by garbing this info here and another info there. You will only be wasting time, you will learn something but putting it together and making it make sense is another story. It may take you a long time to get it when you learn sporadically without a set of guidance. Focus is very important in IM and being a part of a course will give you the focus you need. Hope this helps.

I really don't agree with the advice you're giving him.

A person doesn't have to know all the technical aspects of the internet to marketing online. Many business models don't even require you to know anything about HTML or anything. Let's take articles marketing for example:

I Pick a product to promote on clickbank
I buy a domain and redirect it
      I write an article
      I submit the articles

      What about the HTML?

One more thing, what do you mean when you say don't get caught up in affiliate marketing. Isn't it a good business model to go after?

I have learned a lot of stuff during my 3 years as a IMer........

looking back on the success that I have had, I would credit ALL of it to the most simple mundane process.

Sure, I learned advanced "impressive" sounding techniques/methods but my success came from this:

Learning to do effective keyword research
    Learning to build SIMPLE blogs(WP)/Websites(Xsitepro)
    Learning BASIC on/off page SEO
Adapting the products sales page to my own.

This is a very simple process and it BLOWS every "advanced" process I'd learned out of the water.

Once I have a converting offer, I then turn on the PPC machine. Rise and repeat.

That's my process. I don't do article marketing, forum marketing, etc...

I write a few good articles for backlinks. That's it for articles.

I use SeNuke for my SEO stuff.

Micro Nice Finder for my keywords.

With such little information, it is a waste for us to try to help you.

Internet marketing is just a way of marketing. Marketing covers a bazillion different arenas.

Here are some questions to answer that might help you to help us.

Do you have a budget? How much is it?

Have you any experience running your own business?

What is your area of expertise? Is there a niche you would like to market to?

Is this going to be a part time or full time endeavor?

What are you looking to get out of this?

How much time do you have to devote?

Anyway, the search function is very helpful in finding things explained in more detail on the site.

Welcome to the forum and good luck.

One tip, don't get caught up with "the latest money making product".
Many people will guarantee you success in all sorts of forms.

Do your research without buying anything at first, as you start to understand all the different ways of internet marketing THEN is when you should invest in a great WSO.

My advice to you would be not to get seduced by the sexy and shiny things you will find on your IM journey. There are so many courses, ebooks, webcasts, ...etc and believe me you can get sucked in very easily!

Learn the basics like effective article marketing, SEO (search engine optimization), and setting up a website.

Also learn about the markets you want to enter into. What makes them tick? Do you have a solution to a problem they are having?

The learning curve can be quite long if you get distracted from your goals. Keep your focus and you will come out on top!

        Peace & Blessings,

        Ayesha

I'm about 7 months into IM. My advice would be to keep working. My biggest mistake is that I would start a campaign then stop working to see if my pages and keywords were ranking. While I was in "wait and see" mode, I could have been writing more articles, building backlinks, etc. Working is not surfing the Warrior Forum, checking stats, and buying courses.

The one thing you must not get caught up in is spending the next 12-18 months learning how to do every discipline within the IM world.

If you've got a niche you are interested in then do some learning about keyword research, make a simple squeeze page offering a free product within your niche and start developing a relationship with your list of prospects.

Then carry on learning as you go along. The IM world changes so rapidly that idf you want to learn everything you will end up with lots of knowledge but BROKE for not taking action along the way.

May you have great success and welcome to our exciting club

My advice: This is probably someone you want to stay away from. Look, there are FREE resources on this sites and ebooks that will show you how to make money and things you can sell for hundreds of dollars.

I don't know this person. You don't know this person.

You don't really know who anyone is on the web.

Not a wise move to be putting your email address out there without investigating who people are and what their qualifications are to help you.

Don't get me wrong - there are a lot of good and helpful people here, but to blindly take this guy for his word on something in one sentence - well you are telling me a lot of things.

This is one of the differences between a business online and one offline.

Don't rush into anything where people are trying to give you stuff.

You should be seeking out specific knowledge that will assist you with your particular online business plan.

A little more background on me
I am a Builder and have been running my own Bussiness for the last 7 years but due to a lack of work I am now struggling fiancialy My intention was to start doing some internet marketing while still working at least untill I can get my head around it all and start making a couple of dollars and if all goes well then who knows it could become full time
        This is a little helpful.

A word of advice again - start with what you know. Are you a home builder? Do you build smaller things? Do you design building plans?

There are ways to take your talents and abilities and use them to your advantage online. This can greatly speed up where you want to go.

But please, be careful about who you decide to take advice from and deal with.

Russell, I started about 1 and 1/2 years ago and have had some success but am still not making a living. I have learned a lot and can see that at some point I could make enough to live on. I would tell you to be cautious of people who "guarantee" you success. I lost some money because I was gullible. This is not easy money and if someone is telling you that it is, be very suspicious. Also, as a previous post suggested, join the warriors forum. I cannot tell you how much I have learned from people who have volunteered information without asking anything in return. I have also learned from the courses that I have purchased. In my opinion they were not a waste of time. Get familiar with Wordpress blogs. They are free and can be used as a static website or a blog. They look great and are easy to work with. You may not like them but for many they work great. I love them. Good luck as you join the search for the "holy grail"! Feel free to email me if you need help. If I can help I will.

You know its quite interesting that I have no idea how to help this guy!

How do you help someone who doesnt even know the basics like setting a website up, FTP etc.

You need to learn all that before you can worry about making money online.

You have a long hard road ahead of you.....Internet Marketing is hard enough, let alone learning to make a website and the basics.

Not trying to discourage you, feel free to learn. I learnt everything on my own by playing around with programs like Dreamweaver and Photoshop and reading lots on forums.

I want to ask you this question

Why do you want to learn Internet Marketing?

If its just to make money and you think its going to be quick and easy...then do yourself a favor and forget about it.

On the other hand if you really are an entropenour and are willing to work hard for 1-3 years I'm guessing with your limited experience, then I wish the best of luck.

First I want to say welcome! second I will say be careful of information overload(easier said than done) third don't bounce from program to program never finishing anything and most important this is a BUSINESS not a hobby. With that welcome to the wildest ride in the park, it will be scary, frustrating, but most important very REWARDING once it "clicks" and things fall into place.

      First piece of advice.

      Second piece of advice.

Don't do something you're not capable of doing - keep those things as a sideline/hobby until you get good.

One good step-by-step video course I've found is Eric's tips, which you can find easily enough with a google search. When you get to the domain add /tips/lesson1/ after the .com (I don't have enough posts yet to include links).

Anyway, it's free, and the first few videos should tell you whether you have what it takes to get into IM. Also, one of the first pieces of advice is stop buying stuff. It shows you how to find good keywords, how to build a website a few different ways (including Wordpress), and so on. I don't have any shares or financial interests in the site, I just think it's good and would recommend it.

When a person joins the military, the first thing they do is go through basic training. The primary reason so many people fail at Internet Marketing and the main reason why they have these ridiculously long learning curves is because they never go through any type of Internet Marketing Bootcamp.

If you skip this next step - prepare to join the countless number of men and women who are struggling to make $100.00 with Adsense account in eleven months and who struggle to get 5 credit card payments on their Clickbank account to get their funds released and who struggle to meet the minimum payout on various Affiliate Marketing Programs.

You need to take the: Thirty Day Challenge

      That's your Internet Marketing Bootcamp!

It's hands down the best training out there to help a person grasp what they need to hit the ground running. Currently it's F-R-E-E. However, it has become so popular, that originators are pulling the plug this month. So take it now and make sure you download it!

Take the 30 day challenge from start to finish and you'll thrust yourself ahead of people who've been haphazardly struggling at Internet Marketing for years.

Learn HTML??? Why? He doesn't even no the basics of IM yet. Plus, hand coding sites with HTML is pretty much outdated just like manual steering. There are too many software applications like XSitePro that get the job done with no coding and a very small learning curve.

Don't buy course?? I would tend to disagree with you here with one addendum. After he has learned the basics from a program such as the 30 Day Challenge, buying certain courses would be acceptable.

Just because you haven't bought any good courses is of no consequence. There are plenty of courses/information products worth their weight and more in gold. IM education never ceases and sometimes you have to pay for the best advice!

Bad idea! You currently have "4" posts on this forum and you're targeting newbies to PM you? so that you can send them an ebook? C'mon buddy?

@ woodbutcher - this is the kind of propositions and offers you are going to have to learn to ignore.

In summation, take the 30 Day Challenge and don't make any moves until you complete it. Once you complete it, I would also suggest taking StevenR's course: Make Money Blogging! | supersimpleblogging.com

With that foundation, you'll want to test your knowledge by confirming that you know how to perform:
      1. Keyword Research

Great site thanks for the share.

i'm fairly new to this and have dipped my toe in the waters taking action, i've got 10 blogger blogs in different niche's drip feeding spun plr articles, I also setup a wordpress blog which is on auto pilot posting articles and youtube vids this is also linked to a twitter account and is starting to generate traffic.

i'm yet to monetise any of the above however i have now signed up for adsense, amazon affiliate and clickbank.

I feel i have fallen foul to information overload and jumped from one thing to the next without concentrating, its so easy to get sidetracked in this game and just be fed information or ebook one after another.

good luck to the OP with your step into IM just try and focus a bit more than me.

    Watch ya fella

When l first started out at Internet Marketing l also had little knowledge on how to make money online. There is plenty of free information on the web that can direct you in the right direction. I did make the mistake of paying some so called guru to teach me how to make money online but in return all l got was some useless information but there are some good mentors out there just make sure you do your research on them before departing with your hard earned cash.

    Good luck to ya

Look at all the ebooks that promise riches but we all know they never work.

You can succeed in IM without learning HTML but you are disabling yourself dramatically.
How are you disabling yourself? Please tell me! There are so many aspects to IM that just learning HTML isn't going to get you anywhere. Again, you can start with using a free WYSIWYG program to build your site and focus on getting the traffic needed to make sales or give something away. I don't know how many successful people have done it this way, but it DOES work!

As far as ebooks promising riches go, yes there are a lot of them out there, but there are also a lot of good ones that you CAN learn from-free or paid. Your experience is minute and in one area compared to those who have tried many different ways.

The bottom line is you need to UNDERSTAND how the whole concept of IM works and then decide which method is best for you. Just building a website and monetizing it is not good enough. You have to learn to drive traffic to it in order to make a sale. Again, tell me how just learning HTML will do that for you? I am all ears!

Perhaps you could use this as a niche for your internet marketing? A wordpress blog on DIY/Building with Youtube videos? Or perhaps there is a product on clickbank that would go hand-in-hand with your current expertise?

This is what I was thinking I have been doing a lot of reasearch in the last week every spare minute i have has been on the computer I have come to the conclusion I have got to spend money (which I will, may take a week before I can afford it though) And I will not make money straight away which is fine as I have a lot to learn and I do have to thank everyone on here for there useful tips and links I do intend to succeed at this but I do realise it will take time!! I have looked at a number of the courses that have been put to me here on this thread and others and I do beleive for someone like myself I do need to do a course just got to pick the right one that will exsplaine it from start to finish for someone like me.

Yes I have been in the building industry for 19 years and have worked in just about every aspect of the game and not only can I do my trade which is a carpenter I have also learnt how to do just about every other trade in the building industry here in Australia so yes when I get set up my web page will be about home improvements, repairs and renovations ect.
I have show many a tradesmen better ways of doing things so I'm sure I can give some good advice to the home handy man and I know in Australia this is a ever increasing demand I don't know about the rest of the world though. In my time I also spent 6 years in the army so to a earlier post I know what you mean about boot camp!!
But once again I must thank everyone that has given there advice and yes i'm still open to suggestions because as they say you never stop learning.
      THANKS AGAIN
      RUSSELL

If these 50 videos had a link to an Amazon affiliate site for 4wd accessories, I imagine there would be some traffic.

You can use a Squidoo, or whatever, for free.

Go to YouTube and watch videos on building a Squidoo lens.
Go to Amazon and sign up as an affiliate.
Choose a bestselling 4wd item from Amazon to put in your lens.
Build a simple lens. Use the item you picked in your squidoo lens name. squidoo.com/BEST4WDWHATEVER
The video on building a lens should show you how to add photos.
Link back to Amazon's sale page from this item using your id so you get paid.
Go to your YouTube account and add your lens link to all of your videos.

Using your YT videos will give your site a nice boost. If you have 50 videos there will be 50 backlinks to your site.

Now this will take some time and effort but post any questions here and that should bring answers. I am sure one of the more experienced members will polish, add to, or shoot down, this plan. :-)

        Good luck,
        Steve

    hi,
i have to say go through this

    Internet marketing stratigies

Social Media Marketing: Mind Your Manners

It's true you will not find a list of dos and don'ts when it comes to social media marketing, but you must mind your manners in order for your efforts in social marketing to be successful. Social media marketing is about interaction, interaction creates relationships and those relationships open up the opportunity for you to share information about your products and services. Good manners is essential when it comes to interacting with others using social media networks as a marketing tool.
Marketing Online: Men and Women Use the Internet Differently

We know that when it comes to the way men and women shop; it's different. Men waltz into a store to gather what they came for while women will take the time to browse and explore the new products that have been introduced in the isles. The same is true when it comes to the online behavior of men and women; gender stereotypes apply. Take a few moments to learn how both men and women use the internet and how that information can help you in positioning your product or service.

these are the two tips for beginner

    thanks

@ The Freshmaker - I'm a full time Internet Marketer who does not know HTML. However, I can build a professional looking site with all of the bell, whistles and options in less than a hour, minus a custom header and custom footer. Has not learning HTML disabled me? Not at all! Learning HTML, CSS, PHP and other coding languages is really only for certain types of people. If YOU like or love coding, more power to you. But to say that not learning it will disable one's ability to make money online is patently false information.

Again, in this technologically advanced era, there are plenty of programs a person with no coding experience can use to build astonishing looking websites or blogs. For example, another great application to build blogs with absolutely no coding skills is: Headway Premium WordPress Theme

Just so you know, some of the top Internet Marketers that sell IM software DO NOT know coding; they hire coders to get the job done!

It's clear to see that you have some aspirations maybe to help the guy, just make sure that you are serving up information that does not mislead him or others.

And the quip about not starting in AM Affiliate Marketing... once again, don't use your personal experiences as a barometer or standard bearer for all of Internet Marketing. If you started off and failed at Affiliate Marketing, we feel for you. However, there are plenty of people who started off in AM and haven't looked back.

When a person says they have a family to feed and bills to pay, that means this could potentially be a due or die scenario. The last thing that man and wife needs to hear are the words, "Play around with it..."

If his aspirations are to take the path of Internet Marketing and he has made his commitment, then he needs to quickly learn the foundation...
      1. Keyword Research
      2. SEO Optimization
      3. Backlinking
      4. Building websites

    Welcome to the Warrior Forum!

You certainly have a long journey ahead - don't for a minute think it's going to be an 'easy' ride. Anyone who tells you that is lying!

Anyone who is a success will tell you that.

There are so many ways to make money online, it's unreal. It all depends on your budget, your interests and simply put - what works best for you!

We're all different and we all handle things in a different way. What works for some may not work for others and so on.

It's just a case of finding something, getting your head down and trying it. Work hard and learn all the time!

    Never stop learning.

I wish you all the best!

    Russ.

You've come to the right place to start ! I'd study and read up as much as you can ...get the basics of building a wordpress site (loads of tutorials on youtube), learn some basic SEO (search engine optimization) techniques and see which products or offers are doing well. I know this can be expanded quite a lot but remember it's a learning curve...it is a journey of persistence but well worth it! Feel free to contact me for any particular areas of help. All the best and welcome !

I've been doing this stuff for over 3 years and have spent thousands of dollars on IM programs. The best thing you can do is just READ! There is a ton of free information here. Don't buy anything yet until you know exactly what you are getting into. This is a rough market to get into but it's worth it.

I'm going to agree that you need to buy good instruction course if you want to get ahead, but as I said, know what you are getting into first by reading free info first.

You can teach yourself but its much easier to learn from a mentor. The hard part is learning who you can trust. If you have any question about their intent or ability to teach you, just look at the way they are marketing to you. If they immediately show you a video about their ClickBank earnings, I'd beware. If they are sending you lots of helpful information, I'd listen.

    Good Luck,

    Hey Bud!

Welcome to this Forum and internet land.

Okay ,the internet can be overwhelming; key thing is 'focused energy'!

    my advice is :
    1. Decide 'one' area you wan't to go into to provide value and monetize ( any area at all that resonates with you)

    2. Look for a mentor - someone who has achieved the kind of success you want to achieve; make sure they are reachable and will give you time when you need their help; they'll cut your learning curve dramatically.

There are other things but these two should get you going; they helped me a lot.

    To your success,
    Chucks

  • My suggestion is to find a system with proven results and follow it. The problem is that there are a ton of systems for sale that don't work so you can spend a lot of time and money and end up no better off. I speak from experience. I went through several false starts before finding something that works. I am a new member to the forum, but I highly recommend reading the answers and suggestion daily.

In the beginning you will hear a 100 things to do and they are almost all right.

For you however it is about getting the first method working. When that does happen then you add a second. That is the way we all have done it, even that we will not admit it

You first goal should be to get the 1st.

Your first website, your first person on your lists, the first 1 dollar from sales.

I promise you fun and frustration and I hope you will keep hanging in there.

    A few observations:

    1. If a person needs a coach, the person has insufficient base knowledge. Learn more of the universal basics before specializing. You may need a coach when you want to take a campaign that is profitable but low volume and want to scale it up into high gear. At that point, working with a pro will probably save you thousands more than what they charge.
    2. The knowledge of HTML is absolutely unnecessary. I know HTML, but I pretty much never right code by hand. After all, here is what you really need to know: A, IMG, DIV, H, how to paste a form. That's it.
    3. Web sites are never built by hand these days unless you are a web designer. You setup a Wordpress instance, buy a sales-oriented theme (I am really enjoying my new Abundance theme by a warrior here, but also have Flexsqueeze theme), and simply build your site that way using DIVs as Lego building blocks. Need a testimonial box? DIV class=testimonial - boom, whatever is in that DIV is a testimonial box.
    4. The war room has a lot of information in focused threads. Complete books, courses, premium sales-oriented themes (Privateer was just updated, for example) - for FREE. Read 10 posts per day in War Room and you can be a coach.

It all starts with a list of people who like you.

    Have fun
