Hello all!,

I'm so close to launching my first ever squeeze page - everythings ready and I thought tonight was going to be the night..... But I've been thwarted at the last post! I can't save the PDF file!!

I've added the link of my PDF ebook, I've uploaded it to my hosting account, but when I click on download and save as, it keeps telling me the files corrupted or something like that.

Any clues????

Thanks for your help!

Jo

You should be able to link directly to that file as a download link. What does "files corrupted or something like that" mean specifically? What is the exact wording?

Actually, I always suggest saving the pdf file as compressed zip file because when you click on a .zip link the download starts automatically. Otherwise, usually, the pdf file just opens in the visitor's browser window. (And many of them are dumb enough not to know how to save it on their HD)

Good point too. Actually, lately Firefox has been acting strange with regards to PDF downloads, as in opening a separate browser and giving me an error message, then I also find it in a tabbed window acting quirky.

Could be my add-ons, but Firefox has not been been up to snuff on a number of levels lately. But I digress.

Ok, so I tried this, but the message I get as it trys to download the file is

'unable to download (zip file name) from (web name). Unable to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.'

I've added the link in my editor from the file on my desktop. I've uploaded the zip file to my hosting account. What am I doing wrong???

    Hi guys,

It saves ok to my desktop, but then when I try to open the file the message is 'Adobe reader could not open (pdf file name) because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged, (for example it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).'

I have tried it several times now with a couple of pdfs, I've uploaded the latest version of adobe to see if that was the problem, but I just keep getting the same message!

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    Jo

My psychic powers tell me you have uploaded it in ASCII mode instead of binary mode via your FTP program.

    How do I know...?

Add .com to my name, go to the site and there is a contact form: send me the link and any info you think would be useful to check it.

It means there is a setting in FTP clients whether to upload a file as ASCII or binary ... or auto (meaning let the software decide - it works well in 99% of the cases). Auto is the best.

If a file is uploaded in the wrong way - it gets corrupted, i.e. won't work.

You delete it from the server.
In Filezilla is Edit > Settings > File type - select AUTO.
    Now upload it again.

ASCII? Is that for Windows Hosting? I've always uploaded in Binary mode. Of course I only use Linux hosting.

No, it's not for Win hosting... you are completely wrong. I also use only *nix hosting and in the settings of ANY FTP client (read my post above!) there is a setting for the mode:
    ASCII, Binary, Auto.

If you didn't see it yet, it's time to take a closer look at your FTP client

I know where the setting is... just didn't know if it had something to do with the type of hosting you were using or not.
