As I was searching for a product to promote in my niche. I came across a really nice site that had some great products to promote. I looked at the bottom of the page and it said affiliates and if you wanted to become one just shoot them and email and they'll talk to you. Well I waited till I finally just said ill call the number that they have on their site. After the guy picked up I was like hey how are you doing and asked about the affiliate program they had. He told me don't call back. So I was shocked. SO i called again and mentioned that on their site it says that they are looking for affiliates. He told me the same thing and hung up. How rude can someone be? Your trying to promote there product and thats what you get? That actually makes me think worse of their customer service and product.

What do you guys think?

Honestly, the first thing I would think is if you can't follow the instructions to send an email to ask about being an affiliate then I don't really want to bother with having you promote my products. If you can't follow such a simple instruction then it leaves a lot of doubt if you will follow any rules set forth about what you can or can not do while promoting.

Yeah, and it is also not worth promoting the product of which answer the phone so rudely.

Yeah but then the product owner shouldn't have their phone number on the site if they don't want phone calls. Or the instructions should specifically say to all affiliates NOT TO CALL but email them only.

I think that what that person did was rude and I would never consider promoting their products.

Did he think you were calling to get him to be an affiliate for you?

I don't understand why people are rude about 99% of the time I come across rude people...so I'd just move on and be happy you didn't start promoting...maybe you wouldn't have gotten paid!

Thats what I thought so I called again and made it clear and he's like dont call back here again.

Thats the exact same thought that came to mind. I was just disappointing because I saw HUGE potential in their product.

    Could have been a misunderstanding.

    Who knows?

But, to be honest, I have seen things that are much, much ruder.

He said "send an e-mail". If he doesn't answer that, then he's already telling you he's not interested in having affiliates. In my opinion, calling him wouldn't do anything to improve the situation.

Anyway, I'm sure you're upset, but this is barely rant-worthy in the bigger scope of things. I don't know how long you've been involved with internet marketing, but if this is the rudest thing you've come across, then I must be doing something wrong.

There is no way I would have phoned, if they cannot answer their affilaites emails how are they actually going to react to a customer? At the end of the day the commision etc may be great but if the product and the customer service is not good, then in my opinion you are on a hiding to nothing

Could be the number listed on the website is wrong and that guy is tired of people calling him.

Then again, he could be working as a postman on his day job...:p

You have to ask yourself.. how would this guy treat his customers and would you really be willing to promote a company that didn't care about their customers?

Damaging not only his reputation, but yours and any other affiliates that choose to do business with them.

You dodged a bullet my friend.

When you called - did you verify that you were talking to the person listed on the site. Did you say "is this Mr so-and-so?

Sounds to me like there might be a phone number change and perhaps the site isn't accepting affiliates any longer if they reply by email.

If I want to promote a product that requires contact - I'll contact them once. If they don't reply fairly quickly (a few days) - I move on.

I see things A LOT worse . What got me really mad was that on the website they displayed themselves as angles and (I know its my fault) but I did a lot of thinking and some planing using there site and products.

Yea I verified it was the person. They even mention the company name when you call like DDD can I help you. I was just trying to do this guy a favor. He had his ads plastered all over Adwords for pretty expensive keywords. I guess he has a lot of money to spend :p

LOL... Michael I have to agree. Funny but true. If this is the rudest thing this guy has encountered then he has not been around internet marketing long enough. I have had to deal with things much tougher and ruder than this...

I thought about that too. I do not know but I think there are quite a few things that are shady about this whole thing. The delayed email response or lack of response for that matter, leaves much to be desired with regards to professionalism. I would simply desist and move on...

    I agree wholeheartedly with Louise.

    Don't get upset, be thankful.

Here's another thing to consider: You have just identified a hole in the market. You have the opportunity to fill it.

Probably not a good move by that guy to put his phone number on his website...since he doesn't want to talk to people and all. Yeah, obviously his affiliate program isn't too well thought out, and payments would not be too timely I'm sure!
