What do you do when.....

What do you do when Paypal won't help you?

I purchased a book from this forum in the Warrior Special Offer area. The book turned out to be unethical garbage, so I asked for my refund.

First the seller, a frequent poster on this board, tried to talk me out of a refund by offering me more products for free.

Then, he sent me a phony email, as if it were from Paypal, saying my money had been refunded. He couldn't even be bothered to make the two amounts in the message (purchase price and refund amount) the same. Anyway....

I never rec'd any refund. Paypal said there was not enough money in the seller's account to give me my money back.

I started a dispute with Paypal, and all I got was a notice from Paypal saying that they couldn't help me, and ONE email from the seller telling me that the money HAD been taken out of his Paypal account so "I don't know what to tell you."

Never heard from him again.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get my money back?

Thanks.

    That sucks.

The dispute is closed, or no? If so, I'd say you're probably screwed and that does suck.

Did he have a money back guarantee? If so, did you point that out to Paypal?

Sorry to hear that, hopefully it wasn't a large sum.

If you used a credit card you can call them and do a charge back.

File a dispute with PayPal directly, and be sure to include all of the fake PayPal emails you received.

        Good luck!

I always use my AMEX card when paying through PayPal for anything. Great to have the safety net.

How long as it been? If you used a credit card, call the company and explain to them what happen, they might do a charge back and talk to paypal for you.

That really sucks, We need more honest people in the world.

I would re-issue the complaint, and add a copy of the fraudulent Paypal email. Forging a Paypal receipt or sending an email claiming it is from Paypal is fraud, and places him very close to the top of their list of marketers to boot off the site. Your scammer will be dumped immediately, and never again have a Paypal account.

You may not get your money back, but I'm sure a lot of Warriors will thank you.

My advice is: forget about that money

and I am saying it because I am already experienced a loss of money with PayPal transaction.

I was trying to buy a website from a scammer one time, and I was so hot on that deal that I decided to pay that 500$ we agreed on by PayPal.
the scammer scammed me and I was sad, but with PayPal I got very disappointed. I opened a dispute process waited for 30 days for their decision and in the end I have actually won the dispute

but it did not helped me, the scammer got my money out of his account and left me crying on the floor with only 50$ that I got back. What I wanted to make clear with this long story is that PayPal may be good for small transactions, but for bigger ones do not use it
    use escrow service.

      Kim,
I'm afraid unless you can get it back from your credit card then you're screwed. I've got a couple of disputes on file wih paypal going back to 2005 that went in my favour but the seller cleaned out the attached bank account so paypal couldn't credit me back. Unfortunately that's all the power paypal have.

I have made it my policy to never pay through PayPal with anything other than my Visa debit card. I got screwed a time or two and learned my lesson. PayPal's protection policies are worthless at best. I also won a dispute on an item I never got but PayPal could not refund me as the account had no money in it. Say WHAT? I finally did get the money back but it took quite some time but fortunately we were only talking $15 so it wasn't a big deal. But I learned my lesson when I bought a used book and got a few Xerox copies of some of the pages for $110. I paid with my Amex and PayPal told me that my dispute was denied as I did receive SOMETHING. Fortunately Amex agreed with me that a few Xerox copies of a book by a real estate guru was not appropriate.

After that I have decided that it just doesn't pay to fund a transaction any other way than a debit or credit card.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I guess I WILL use a credit card when paying with Paypal from now on. Sounds like the safest bet.

    Thanks again.

Also, is it possible for you to alert Allen so that others here don't fall victim to the same person? Don't know if that's appropriate or allowed.
