Wordpress.com OR Wordpress.org?

Before I get comments telling me what the difference is, I already know lol

Wordpress.org, you download the file, upload through FTP and sort hosting out yourself etc etc

Wordpress.com - hosted by wordpress and easier to start etc...

My Question though...

I'm starting an Internet Marketing blog - Basically just dishing out quality useful content etc..

Am I going to benefit more from using WordPress.org?

Or

Will WordPress.com be good enough to start with?

Thanks
Mark

I think getting your own domain would be better. You can also customize your blog better i think.

      Can't agree with you anymore.
If you have enough time to spend on WordPress, why you try to create a blog with your own domain. With your personal blog, you can earn extra cash when blogging.

Go for wordpress.org, then for the cost of a domain and cheap hosting you own the web property.

Forget .com! Read their TOS and you will see it is not for IMers.

You could use it as a "sandbox" (although it's different when you have it on your own hosting acct), just don't put any serious content on it. It is not you who is in control...

Choose wordpress.com if you want a quick start etc, but there are other wordpress hosted blog options out there (I own one) that offer a ton more features, templates and plugins than wordpress.com ever can. They are a halfway house between wordpress.com and your own hosted wordpress installation.

I have 2 friends that actually had this happen. Good warning Alexa! For me, even with the challenges of the learning curve---I want my work to be my own & to last. . . and of course I want to make money

If you intend on having any form of monetisation at all, wordpress.com is absolutely out of the question, as (a) it breaches their terms of service, and (b) they really will delete your blog within a minute of noticing that you've done so.

what about option of first creating blog on wordpress.com and use cutom domain mapping ($10 a year) and your own domain through some registrar. Once you create some decent amount of content and do some backlinking, get your own hosting move content to that hosting. after moving to your own hosting you can start monetising it.

Especially when the additional expense incurred to host it yourself will run to about 7 bucks a month and 3 minutes work with Fantastico.

I prefer Wordpress.org purely becuase you can install plugins and the customization is that much better.

Wordpress hosted on your own domain is the only way to go if you're going to be using your blog for IM. If you get a hosting package with Fantastico, you can install your blog with just a couple of clicks.

Why always one or the other? Do both....carefully.

You have received good advice...I too would suggest doing both but remaining w/in the terms of service of .com.

As I understand it, you can't install your own plugins on WordPress.com blogs.

You will always benefit more by self-hosting your blog. Wordpress free blogs do not allow any marketing. So if you don't want to make money, get the free blog. I you want to make money, spend 5 bucks on hosting, and and 10 bucks on a domain name.

    Have a great day
