Web hosting company: Rackspace. Expensive. Used to have tremendous
support, now it's hit-or-miss. This is the managed version of
serverbeach. com. Will not allow multiple class c ip addresses on a
server without a long term relationship or an incredibly good
reason. I'm currently looking at additional servers with godaddy and
bluehost, if anyone has feedback.

Merchant Account: Card Service International and Nova. Nova will
make same day deposits by midnight into USBank accounts.

Recommendation: Use UPS (uninterrupted power supply) systems with
line filtering for every important computer. I've seen a tremendous
increase in stability of my systems after doing this. The line
filtering bumps up the voltages during power dips in addition to
regulating power surges.

Local Backup: I use a Mirra network backup system. It backs up any
computers/drives/ files that I tell it to on a continual basis,
keeping the 5 most recent versions. I've had 2 hard drive crashes
this year and I only had about 15 minutes of downtime each time!! It
used to mean DAYS wasted.

Load Balancers: I use a Hotbrick LB2 load balancer to manage both a
DSL and cable internet connection. This makes cable or dsl outages a
non-event. In addition to essentially doubling my available
bandwidth, the load balancer will automatically preference the
service with the best connection and least congestion.

Multiple monitors: It sounds silly, but if you are STILL only
working with one monitor, you may as well be typing with your feet.
Studies (probably done by a monitor company) show a 10-30% increase
in productivity with 2 monitors and even more with 3. My laptop only
has 1 output, so I use 2.
