Information Overload - What I've learned my first 20 hours of IM

I know I have the desire, the ability, and most importantly the skills to provide quality content. I can write well, I have a decent understanding of html (at least enough to build a nice WP blog). I plan to document all of my hours spent doing whatever in an excel spreadsheet that I will eventually share with the community.

My question is - where in the HELL do I start?

Clickbank-
  • Sounds great! Easy enough to find the products that are actually selling. Easy enough to review the products for free before selling them. People claim to make tons of money on Clickbank...how can I go wrong?
CPALead (and other CPA websites)-
  • Sounds INCREDIBLY enticing. Content gateways seem to have a great conversion rate. But where to start? Do I purchase a premade movie site? Do I write a blog about movie releases and offer a link with a gateway?

Amazon or other Physical Product Affiliation-
  • I have a decent understanding of how to search for 'niche' opportunities. What are the numbers I am looking for?

Search Engine Optimization

  • All I keep reading about is providing tons of 'content' (user made or contracted) via endless web 2.0 platforms. Youtube, Ezine, Facebook, Squidoo, etc.
  • Is that really all it takes?

Seriously, I would LOVE some 'guidance.' Someone to say 'start here, and then move forward!'

I would like to be able to purchase 10 domains and 10 hosting services for each domain but I do not have an extra 850 bucks floating around currently. On that note, can I have multiple domains hosted by one service?

I know these are drowned out questions and if they are really overdone then please feel free to completely ignore this post. I am starting a blog soon (not directly aimed to $$) tracking day 1 of my IM efforts along with data driven excel spreadsheets to keep myself organized, but I really want someone to help me out with 'You should start here.'

Thanks all. I'm so happy to have found this community.

The $850 figure is not true.

$10/domain, $10/mo hosting (both actually cost less) - $110 expense. I have about 40 domains on my hosting account. I don't see a reason to start with 10.

Here is an interesting way - buy one of those multi-GB PLR/MRR megapacks and actually read/watch the content instead of focusing to sell it. I have at least 10 full courses that answer your questions for which I paid a grand total of $17. Sold them a few times to my friends for $60/course, by the way...

You start with picking a niche and starting a list.

Want a full course that really is "Start here and do this step-by-step"? Send me a tweet. I enjoyed it quite a bit out of my entire package.

I run a few startups that address critical business problems. PM or Skype me about joining my direct affiliate programs. My products are business continuity and customer testimonials. Both are unique.

information overload is a critical problem that you face, when you start with internet marketing.

Clickbank/CPA Lead/Amazon - simply put give you the ability to promote someone else's product

Search Engine Optimization - this is about getting people to your website

In simple terms internet marketing is about selling others or your own products/services. What you should really focusing on is how to get TRAFFIC to you site, and convert that traffic into LEADS and SALES.

For example you mentioned you can deliver quality articles - now you can create 10-20 quality articles and sell the PLR to those articles and have money in your account.

Instead you can take the same articles and post it to your blog and stick your affiliate link to the article.

Start with your strengths and see which model would best suit you and then get to work. Send me a message if you need more step by step instructions.

I agree with what Ron said. You need to find a niche market. Find a group of people that are absoultely salivating for some kind of product. Then you just give them what they want. Whether it be through affiliate marketing or product creation. Either works although I prefer to create my own products. This is your starting point.

Another thing...read through this forum. There is absolute Gold in this forum! This place can get you started and point you in the right direction. Good luck!

Why isn't blogging on the list?

If I were training you I'd start out there and all that other stuff would come with the learning curve of blogging. Because blogging imho is the way forward when you get the hang of it.

I wouldn't want to see you waste your time learning things you don't need to either so why not start out by thinking at a lower level than "what can I learn" and instead think "what have I got to bring to the table?"

So what can you already do?

Because before someone can even blog about something, they need to know what they are going to blog about...So if the OP doesn't even have a niche, then they need to find one and find one that is starving for something. Then when they find the niche, they can learn to blog and monetize. You would probably want to find the niche market first don't you think?

Generally speaking, Clickbank's products are mediocre. So there is actually a lot that can go wrong.

Also realize that most of the people claiming to make tons of money there are trying to sell you a system that involves pushing Clickbank products. They choose to mention Clickbank because it is so newbie friendly. Whereas if they talk about eBay's program or something similar, the newbie probably isn't even getting approved for entry into the program.

I'm not saying to avoid Clickbank, but you have to use some serious due diligence when choosing what to push there.

Some of this might be alright, some not. If it simply involves sending someone to a form to fill out, realize that you have to handle the selling on your end. You can't just say "Click here for whatever." It's more like "Whatever is awesome because ___ and ___. Click here to get it." Simplified example, but you get my point. Someone who is new might not be able to handle this very well yet. Heck, many people who have been around for years can't pull in this type of a sale.

Not sure exactly what you mean by movie site, but premade/turnkey/whatever is almost always a really bad thing in this business. But people don't want to learn HTML, CSS, PHP, Photoshop, etc... or pay someone for expensive custom work, so they settle for what premade stuff is available.

No, it takes more than that. Most people using those methods have sites that suck, so they have to go out and "force" traffic into them by posting spammy YouTube videos and things of that nature. That's why there is so much talk of this.

Good, because you won't be making anything at first anyway.

If you want to do tracking for fun, go for it. But the data isn't going to be anything worth studying at first since your numbers are going to be so low, thus unreliable in terms of spotting patterns.

Start with a market you are passionate about. Help people in that market solve their problems. (ASK them what their problems are through surveys and whatnot.) Use every media method to market yourself as a solver of problems in that market. Either sell your own product or an affiliate product that helps solve the problem. This is the basis of all information product selling.

The other day I read that of the 95% of stuff you read ... you'll only use 5%. Just focus on learning stuff that can benefit you immediately in your current position.

And personally ... I'd choose a niche and build a list everytime (and wish I'd done it years ago).

Start with ONE domain... ONE blog... ONE method of traffic generation... ONE affiliate product and move on from there!

Why not start a niche market within your region? Find what's the missing and "hot" market that people has always been seeking then start from there. Industrial pains for instance could easily yield earnings for you as you could help local businesses market while you offer your knowledge to them.

I hope that'll bring up a good idea for you.

There are many different proven money making systems that are available in this forum. If I am in your situation, I will invest the $37 to get access to the War Room as there are many set by step systems that are available inside the War Room.

Choose one system to follow from a warrior that you are comfortable with and just stick to it. You might consider unsubscribing from the rest of the internet marketers' list so that you will not get distracted.

Hope this is useful to you

Thank you all very much for your comments, I have much to think on.

I have put in about 4-5 hours today performing simple forum marketing with a blog post reviewing an affiliate link and have already gotten 40 views on my blog. (Im not sure how to check views on the actual affiliate)

one good host can handle lots of domains. if i could go back and start over i would buy my domains one at a time and work them up that way. i bought 7 and ended up focusing on two mainly while the other 5 suffered. i also would have used outsourcing from the beginning as well.
