Squeeze page or popup?

As a buyer I am often sent to a squeeze page offering a free e-book or something of value before being passed on to the main sales page.

I have now got freebie to give away with my website but for simplicity to begin with I have added an instant popup at the top of the page which offers an e-book which is useful and complementary to the product I am selling.

Should I now advertise to send prospects to and entirely separate squeeze page or keep things the way they are? I am becoming weary of having to always go through hoops myself to get to the main product so do not want to weary my prospects any more than necessary?

I suppose the answer might be to rotate ads to see which one convert best but witthout going to all that trouble I just wondered whether anyone could say from experience what should work the best.

If you send to a squeeze you'll get more opt ins, less sales

If you send to a sales page you'll get more sales, less opt ins.

If you're talking about the instant site launcher page in your sig, I think a video squeeze page would work well, where you hype up the software and show it in action. Get them to opt-in to find out more.

This is so wrong it's not even funny...

The average conversion rate on a sales page is 0.5% to 2% if your traffic is targeted and your offer is sound. However, if you squeeze your prospects into a carefully crafted email sequence you can bump that up to 5%, plus you get to build your mailing list faster. At least those are the stats I've been gathering from my own products and trust me I've split tested extensively the whole sales page vs. squeeze->email sequence->sales page thing.

There is just no other way around it: your first priority should always squeeze your visitors into a list. You'll send them to your sales page later, but make sure to grab their email address first.

I agree with AA (Anonymous Affiliate)

You should always look for the best ways to get that visitor on
your list. Your list is your biggest assest online.
You should be doing everything you can to grow it.

For myself i do the squeeze page....i just offer them a video for there
name and email. its that simple. If you don't have a product get yourself
a resell rights products to offer your visitor.

Also you can sign up with a affiliate program that offers an ebook
that you can brand with your affiliate link. Offer the ebook to your visitors
and allow them to give it away to there list.

PPC, Article marketing, Social marketing etc... just search the forum for help.

And yes I agree with "Anonymous Affiliate". Always go for squeeze page first because you will end up with more subscribers and more money. I was skeptical at first too but ended up 3+ times more cash and thousands of subscribers in no time. Just try it and experience the result yourself.

Write articles and submit them to article directories and use their resource box to backlink to your squeeze page or forum posting and blog commenting , etc.

I like what Anonymous Affiliate has said ... plus there's the testing to back it up.

Recently I was listening to an audio where the speaker said that in the IM niche he often goes straight for the sale (it might have been more specific to low ticket items) because he found they converted at a better rate than Squeeze Page to Sales Page.

So the price and niche mindset can change things ... but lets face it ... it's all about results and unless you have your own you gotta piggy back on someone elses!

Thanks Anonymous Affiliate for the input.

Thanks everyone you have convinced me to make a short video squeeze page to get a sign up and either I can give away an e-book or better still take them to a more indepth video for this particular product. As you say, once I have their name I can send them information and special offers later on if they do not go through to the sales page and order.

At the moment I have a popup which is the first thing that a visitor to the page. I am offering an e-book but I could easily change this to take them to a demo preview after they sign in. I can also give the prospect the e-book as an extra gift after they confirm their subscription.

Looks like I will have to get working on the video and a squeeze page. At least I can put the video on Youtube when it is done.
