How to use Escrow selling your site on Flippa?

Hey everyone, I'd like to sell my site one flippa which will be my first time and I'm just wondering does flippa provide you with escrow service or do you need to somehow apply it upon selling it? And what are some tips you could give a person not to get ripped off? Thank you!

    Flippa tells you specifically the answer to this question. Do your own due diligence.

    Flippa don't currently have their own Escrow service and don't take any liability for the behaviour of buyers/sellers. They do however have a special deal with Escrow to get you 10% off fees and this is integrated into the sales process (if you want to accept/pay with Escrow).

    In terms of the site itself, spend some time verifying their statistics (traffic and revenue) and make sure you ask questions if you find any inconsistencies then either ask a question or steer clear altogether.

    Make sure you do some good due seller diligence. Check a seller's history and feedback. If possible do a Whois check on the domain and ensure they are who they say they are.

    Generally, with Escrow, you are pretty safe. Make sure you DO NOT release the funds to the seller until you are 100% happy with the transaction.

    • Depends on your appetite for risk and quality of due diligence.

      If you are buying, to be honest, assuming no alarm bells ring when checking out the seller, I'm happy using Paypal for anything below $500. If I'm buying a site I always ensure I send the payment as GOODS as Paypal don't support virtual goods. If you get ripped off you will be more likely to win a dispute as you can claim you ordered a physical good.

      When selling it is fine too, but to be extra safe send a CD to their billing address with the website files on it. Will cost you $5 or so, but well worth it as they can't dispute if you have physically sent it to them.

    If it's too much trouble for you to answer with an informative answer to a thread, you may as well just not answer at all. There isn't a thread posted on WF that the answer couldn't be found somewhere else.

    Actually, Flippa just integrated with escrow.com so it does have escrow. Before that, you just initiated your own escrow.com transaction.

  • Thanks Thomas but I'm looking to sell my site which will be more then a a thousand dollars so I should be conducting all of the transaction through escrow correct? Paypal won't be save enough to make bid deals? So you need to sign up for escrow to make any transactions? Thank you again..

    • I would recommend Escrow, yes. You can use Paypal, but I wouldn't recommend it for anything big.

      Escrow is a really simple process: once you sell, go through your Flippa success area to Escrow where you setup in your name and email, buyer sends cash, you agree terms, transfer site, and then buyer releases funds when they are happy. I suggest you have a read of their site to get a better idea.
