The days of owning one website and makes a living
are over. Successful marketers own most times over
a low of 50 to unlimited.

I know one famous marketer who does one website a night
and has been doing this since 2006.

Figure it up and you get your answer.

I own a few (10), I used to own a lot more (about 50 or 60 back in the day), it really depends on your purpose for each site. Some you can put on full automation and then just do the usual routine of checking up on them etc. where as some need continuous work, really depends on your objective. Some people have those mini sales sites, so obviously they'd have a lot more, whereas some have one main site with everything on it, but really organizied.

building this number of website is not a problem.. the real problem is managing those website especially if you are hosting them on your own.. on a CMS!

I have over 100 sites with about 2 to 3 as my current focus. Of those that I spend a significant amount of time on I also have outsourced assistance. Interestingly, the sites that get the most attention make the most in terms of income per domain. That is not to say that all the others are not profitable annually.

So if Einstien was an internet marketer he would be famous for this quote.

While I don't completely disagree with you, is does depend on what you need to "make a living".

It's like whether you're rich or not depend on your definition of rich.

I have one website that quite easily makes me a good living on its own.

Of course I persue more websites because yes, the more you have, the higher odds of making more. And it's fun of course!

But it's definately quality over quantity in my opion.

I have about 35 domains in various stages of development. I'm a recovering domain name impulse buyer. I get an idea, buy a domain name and realize later it really wasn't all that great or marketable.

I've got about 15 sites... 6 products... 80 or so domains....Some of them name squeezes driving to a sales page or a blog..

some I just use for PPC because of increased clickthroughs..

i own around 20 domains

i tend to buy them frequently when i start a new campaign, i use godaddy they're fairly priced and always have promos so there isn't a hesitation when a landing page idea comes floating into my head.

if you're just starting out i recommend sticking with one campaign for a few months and really get a knack for running offers before you start running multiple ones!

Two words. Automation and Outsourcing. As much of the first as possible and use the second when you must.

I own about 15 with 4 active. One thing you may want to consider is getting a reseller account so you're not buying hosting for each domain. Secondly, if you're doing shared hosting you're going to want to have them hosted on different servers so you don't have all your domains on one IP. This could affect SEO/rankings if you link between them in any way.

I've got 30 over domains and 10 of them have been converted into sites. Most of them are fully automated with some maintenance once in awhile. About 2 sites are making money right now and the rest are too new...need some time to build it up...

Goal is to hit 50 or more sites fully automated....

It is not the number of website that one's own that is important but the actual profit generated from the site or sites . If someone own one website and is making good money than somebody with ten websites. What is essence of having ten websites not one website? The focus should be on how to generate good money from our site or sites not number.

I have more than 5000, a few hundred developed, the others just have advertising while I create more satellite sites for very specific niches.

Very expensive to manage? Yes... a lot.

Couple hundred. Bearing in mind that at first I wanted to make money online. Once I achieved that all I'm doing is blitzing through every method possible as case studies of which I am recording in order to show newbies that every method works if you stick at it.

This includes:

Adsense sites
Parking Domains
Selling Domains
Clickbank Snipers (Just starting this, will be doing blog following on warrior forum and at DAIMDREAM.COM)
CPA
Membership Sites

and more...

Though wouldn't class it a jack of all trades as I make sure I can make a living from each one before I can consider it a success.

I've got about 25 currently having added 5 more niche blogs this week. With organisation and outsourcing I've set up most of my blogs on schedules for adding articles and Amazon ads for a month so I can either take a break and get some decorating done or work on another project.
