I rank these in no particular order:

Adbrite -- very popular
Bidvertiser -- about as popular
BuySellAds -- so/so
BlogAds -- Wide Selection and can be pricey
Clicksor -- don't know much about

There are others, but those are the ones off the top of my head

  Ive heard bad things about all of them, I've heard good things about all of them. I think people probably give up too easily and don't stick with it.

Usually, when somebody says they are interested in media buys, they are not looking for places like adbrite or bidvertiser. What exactly are you looking for? I can probably steer you in the right direction no matter what type of media you are looking to purchase.

Adbrite aren't so much for media buys are they? They're just a CPC network for banner ads.

have you thought about considering contacting individual websites?

The best way is to find a website through alexa and then call the webmaster and ask for the rates. In most cases you will find the best deal through this.

so there isn't a place like abrite.. i know theres some sites that you can purchase a banner ad for a whole month but you'll need to have a good budget.. and the banners don't rotate which sucks..
