HELP! Paypal limited my account. What to do?

I have a problem with my paypal account. I provide article writing services because I have been getting more and more clients, and thus more money, paypal has limited my account and froze my funds because of "suspicious activity".

They are asking for proof of shipment of the goods, which I do not have since I do not sell any physical product.

Has anyone experienced this? What did you do to lift the limitation?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to explain to them that you were selling a service rather than physical goods.

Your best bet is probably to ring them and explain.

They may want to see evidence of correspondence between you and your clients and further proof of your identity

    Good luck

The problem is when I call them at the number listed on their website, 1-402-935-2050, all I get is the machine asking me for my phone number (including the area code). I live outside the united states. When I enter my phone number including the country and area code, the machine says it doesnt recognize it, and thats that. I dont know how I can get through to actually talk to someone. Any tips?

What number did you call? Do I have to specifically ask for that department? I have read in other threads that I need to talk to someone from the "Executive Escalations" department.

  • Perhaps you can use the toll-free number for PayPal: 1-888-221-1161. I'm not sure if it works for those outside the US...

You could have a problem here - if they don't "understand" then they can limit youre account for 180 days giving you no access to the money in it, I would call them straight away.

It happened to me and i called them daily and made a big stink until they explained their reasoning. Turns out they made a mistake but not after messing my biz up for weeks.

I am using a premiere account. Does this matter? Do I need a business account?

Log in to you account and click the "contact" link at the bottom of any page. Then select "contact us by phone" on the page that comes up. You should get a telephone number and a web pin number. After entering your pin, an automated message will tell you that your account is limited and she is emailing you directions. After that, simply say "agent" and you should get connected. When you get them on the telephone, simply explain your situation and ask how you can resolve this quickly.

In the meantime, use your alternate payment acceptance method so that you do not disrupt your sales. You do have an alternate, right?

Problem with this is that when I call, they dont ask for my pin but instead ask for my phone number. Since I am from outside the USA, they dont recognize my phone number. And then I am stuck there.

Unfortunately, I do not have an alternate. What other payment processor accepts paypal payments?

You should get a US telephone number. There are many places that you can get one. This will help your business in many ways, including dealing with PayPal. Here is one source: Virtual Phone Line - Get a Phone Number from anywhere in the world.

As for payment processors that accept PayPal, try 2Checkout.com - Merchant Account / Credit Card Processing Alternative

Dial the international code without the "+" or "00" prefix. And say "Agent" if no response works - this is not documented (at least I could not find a documentation) but appears to work.

I finally got to talk to someone. The guy said he will put the notes down on my case and then e-mail the person handling it. And that I should expect to hear back in 24 hours. I hope the case is resolved soon

i have a business account that i have used to make payments to others for services on a regular basis. some of my outsourcers who took payments from me and didn't have a business account had all sorts of trouble with their accounts, which invariably led to my account being limited. all i found is when i clicked "contact us by phone" like above, and actually spoke to someone, then it all got worked out over the telephone. ocasionally i had to change my password and such, and i think that some of the providers i was working with were doing things shady, to be honest. since i stopped working with them 6 months ago, i have not had any further problems with my account. but i think once you use the contact by phone and get your pin, and the number to call, and explain your situation, you should be fine.

Is having a business account better than just a premiere?

What are the pros/cons of both?

Ok they finally emailed. They said that they need to keep a certain percentage of each sale for XX number of days to be safe. Sort of like a revolving credit.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

Join the club, Paypal froze my account on Feb and it took a lot of phone calls to unfreeze. They also did an investigation into one of the companies I was doing business with for years. This is typical paypal. I could not use Ebay until they reopen.

Finally, they conclude their investigation and unfreeze the funds after I have to contact a bunch of people I am doing business with to plead that they wait for me. OK many got mad at me. They want me to send them money.

It is like a comedy of errors. Maybe something from the keystone cops. I feel that Paypal should win an award for poor customer service.

What a tragedy of a company. They are always trying to make life difficult for me. And it appears also for you. They claim someone was using my account, and they were trying to trace the IP.

It is a miracle they are still in business, but what can I say.....
