Where to place your money

I built my product, built the website, have all the technical parts in place. Now the site needs traffic. If you had $500 where would you promote your website/product.

Thanks for insight.

I would promote the product in the places where my initial research found the people who have the problem I created it to solve.

i.e - if I created the product because people on a forum were asking for a solution - I would advertise it on that forum. If I used PPC to find the people and identify their problem - I would use PPC to promote it.

If you've got money to invest, I'd recommend PPC. I usually use google search and adwords as market research, so, following Andy's advice that's why I personally start with PPC for promotion.

So if you havn't got any specific websites that you used as market research then try adwords... you can't get much more targeted traffic.

That said, be prepared to lose (invest) a bit of money with PPC... you'll need to find out which keywords work and which don't so losing a bit of money is inevitable.

But anyway, yeh... going from what little info you gave, to answer your question, I'd go with PPC.

You'll soon find out whether your website converts or not :-)

Great post! Another good and low cost way to promote your site would be via PPV.

      thanks for the replies.
      Here is a collective list.

      - Promote with the method that you found the market(blogs/forums/PPC).
      - Promote via article marketing
      - use PRweb.com for a Press Release
      - PPC(google)

I gave little info on the niche, because I wanted feedback to be general. I know that a niche may present other marketing methods/avenues, but I wanted to see a list that was not niche focused.

Once again thanks for the feedback.

It depends on what product you are promoting and what you learned about your potential customers buying behavior. Are you looking to build a list or sell products...these are questions that you need to consider before deciding which marketing medium would be the most responsive. Without not knowing more information on your objective, you should look at newsletter marketing it's usually quite responsive. Good luck
