Hi Everyone,

I'm in the middle of making a website where I'm going to provide
a new piece of Software for Free every week.

I'm in the middle of writing the homepage letter.

I seem to be stuck, or rather have writer's block when it comes to
the benefits of downloading Free Software to my website visitors.

I need examples that I can include in my homepage
that will tell them the top 10 Benefits of downloading Free Software.

I hope I'm not asking too much.

Thank You So Much,
Sandy

Hi Sandy, need to know what the software is and what is it's function, as you would have several different benefits for each.

It is probably more important to make sure your downloads can convert into a list, by showing the value you are providing.

After that, just the idea that they are free will be great "seller"!

    Best!

      Hi Eric,

I'm going to be making software for different niches.
Examples being: Twitter, eBay, Article Directory/Article Writing.

For the first few, they will mainly consist of strictly resources
for the particular niche the software is made for.
Places to find the various resources people will want or need for that subject.

Can somebody supply just "General" benefits for Free Software
without having to know what the software is? Please?

      Hoping to hear something,
      Sandy

P.S. I sure hope I'm explaining this correctly

Well Sandy... Yes you will need to know what the software does in order to explain it to those you wish to have join your site.

In this day and age, people will not simply download something because it is free, too dangerous.

Get with the person you received the software from and have them describe it to you first.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, do you just not want to reveal the software?

Because if it is truly of some use, many of the members here may want to have a look.

        Hope that helps!

    Hi Sandy,

Congratulations on your new venture and I'm sure it will be a success.

Since softwares are applications comprised of commands written in a coding language,

the ole addage of GIGO or "Garbage In Garbage Out" applies.

In other words, depending on what the purpose of each specific

application is to accomplish, it is hard to really give generic benefits.

However, by making a list of the softwares, you can now

focus on the benefits of what the intended purpose of the software app

accomplishes for the person who downloads it and puts it to effective use.

    Some may be:

*Automate time consuming tasks by using the software to perform tasks
that you'd otherwise have to do manually

*Save hours of research by using a software that quickly categorizes
the specific information you are looking for with a single click

*Track statistics which can be very beneficial for knowing which of your everyday operational business processes are performing best so you can
scale those up and eliminate processes not working for you with your software

*Stay in contact everyday or as often as you wish by creating messages in your autoresponder software to handle customer support and other tasks where disseminating information to large groups of people can be important to automate

*You can use software scripts that encourage interaction with visitors to your website to keep them engaged and returning often

*You can use software script plugins that allow your members to share information they find useful or valuable with other members or members of their networks

*Softwares that record vital statistics and information of your visitors can be automated to add that special touch when sending a birthday wish to a member who entered their birthday and give that personal touch which often breaks down barriers and resistance to more sales of products and services

*You can use submission softwares to submit content to directories that publish information on the category of your content and increase reach, exposure and visits to your website by leaving a link in your content
for visitors who wish to visit so they can do so with the obvious benefit there being an increase of traffic to your offers and websites

*You can track sales of affiliates with affiliate management software and see which of your affiliates are producing the most sales for you. This bookkeeping will also help you to calculate the commissions you need to pay them as many softwares track and calculate this number for you.

*Use organizational software to organize important files, data and statistics for quick and easy access next time you need to look at them.

Now that 10 general benefits have been provided, here's one more:

*Use video editing software to help you create videos that you can record to send to people explaining how to do tasks that otherwise would take you hours to explain. Record just once and now the video will act as your employee or paid trainer saving you priceless time and energy while increasing your productivity exponentially.

Don't know if that is what you were looking for or not,
    but I hope it helps.

Those are some great ideas, the problem is, what if the software mentioned does none of these things?

      Then credibility is shot...

Thanks for the kind words and identifying potential problems.

Obviously she is to deduct which general benefits are appropriate for

the particular software that accomplishes only exactly what the benefit is

so that credibility is still only the highest possible at all times with no exceptions.

          Sandy,

          When it comes to software, "free" has two meanings;
          1) It doesn't cost any money
          2) The software is "free" of any copyright restriction, the computer code is available for anybody to read, and they are "free" to change the software to suit their own needs. (Depending on the licence arrangements, "open source" and "public domain" software falls into this category)

If you mean "free" as in "no cost", then it has the same advantages of any other giveaway...
          - No chance of spending money only to discover that it's not suitable for your needs
          - No need to share your card numbers with people you don't know
          - No running up *more* credit card debts
          - No expensive software upgrades (they'll be free as well)
          - More likely that friends will also try the software when you recommend it to them
          - People with low-income and college students can take advantage of the offer
          - Money saved can be re-directed to other destinations (broadband bills? hardware upgrades?)

If you mean "free" as in "no restrictive copyright licences" then...
          - Software can be shared across all of your computers without worry of copyright infringement
          - The file format of your saved files will be accessible to every future upgrade
          - If you're something of a programmer, the software can be altered to suit your needs

Hope this gives you some starters...

I don't think she is looking for specific benefits of the software being offered.. but rather the benefits of getting free software from her as opposed to paying for software from someone else.

My understanding here is she is looking for benefits specifically on getting software for free, not the benefits of the software itself.

Although I do understand what you are asking Sandy, I am afraid I can't really offer you much help. I have been dealing with software for a very very long time (I first started writing my own programs on home computers in the early 80's) and honestly see very few benefits to getting free software as opposed to a supported paid option.

I can tell you from personal experience with other programmers software in the last few years that once a programmer stops earning money from a program he or she will quickly lose interest in supporting it. This makes most free options a poor choice unless you know for a fact that the program is 100% bug free and will run right the first time, every time, and in every situation. As a programmer I can tell you that is impossible to do.

I don't mean to try to convince you to change your plans or scrap your idea here, but to make sure you go into what your doing fully informed on what you are getting into.

Normally, when people actively seek out free software, they are more often than not looking for a solution to a specific problem. They are also actively searching keyword terms to this effect.

Then they will go to the biggest sites in search of what they need, SourceForge, etc.

If someone want's their site to gain in popularity, they will need to describe exactly how these software tools, free or not, will address these specific needs.

Most people will not seek out the keywords "Free Software" or "The benefits of free software", unless in search of warez, but even then it will be a specific product.

Just my opinion and advice, good luck with your download site!

    Ok - my 2c worth:

    1. Many expensive software packages offer a free or "lite" version. For many users this offers the functionality they require without the expensive frills they they don't need.
    2. The free version is often simpler to use. It's lack of extra frills makes it easier to understand and easier to implement.
    3. Free means you can experiment with using a product family to see if it is right for you without committing yourself to a financial outlay - a big plus in today's difficult times
    4. No financial commitment means you can download products when they are available and save them to use whenever you might need them
    5. Sometimes computers seem like bottomless pits that you throw money at - free means you spend less of your hard earned cash
    6. If you are on a fixed or tight budget, free software means you can get so much more from your computer
    7. For students free software can be invaluable - helping them expand the range of learning opportunities available on their computer
    8. Free means you will download software you probably wouldn't even look at if you had to pay for it. It could open new horizons. New hobbies, new learning opportunities, opportunities for earning online that you hadn't even thought of

.............brain's addled, how about top 8 benefits. Doesn't sound the same somehow.
