There's an auction in Godaddy for expired domains.

    Here's the link : https://auctions.godaddy.com/

    EDIT : JUST A TIP!

    I visited it myself and saw : cardsurfer.com - Traffic : 11,732 - Bids : 7 - Price- $95

I think this one is hot!

freshdrop.net, but do your homework before buying.

Check the amount of backlinks, PR can be redirected from another high PR domain to the one you're buying (temporarily until you buy it). And check to see if it has expired or the PR may also disappear, the PR update isn't in real time.

I am not an expert, but I have heard that when you buy an old domain the PR is dropped back to zero when Google updates PR... which is every 3 months (I heard)

I recommend buing an aged domain with out rank.. then build the rank your self or outsource.

I think this is why go daddy dont include pr in thier serach criteria -- my domain dropped from a pr 4 before xmas to pr 0 --

which is bad cos i was planning on selling it as a pr 4 -- luckily i havent and it didnt cost too much -- but thats a point to look out for -

hopefully it ll come back with some seo and article marketing - im hopefull i have cos i have content lined up untill 2013 - so ill just have to be patient -

Excellent advice. I shall remember this when I start thinking of buying PR domains again. For now I'm just doing it the old fashion way without much money.

I find Flippa .com very good for buying websites/domains.

Another place to look for them is registercompass.com - it's a monthly fee but you can search on your specific criteria. It searches godaddy, namejet and some other places.

You probably already thought of this but I mention it in case someone reading might not have .... you want to be sure to take careful note of the sites linking to it in order to make sure the back links will stick after you take over the site.

For example if it just has 1 high PR link then it might be too risky or if it looks like the places it gets links from update theirs all the time, then the links could be dropped when they realize the new site is not the one they linked to.

From experience I can assure that this is not true with all expiring domains like the ones the OP is talking about. I think once the domain is dropped completely this "may" be the case but I've bought plenty of expiring ones that have kept their PR through several updates.

Yes, I have had the same experience. Last year I even had a domain I purchased increase from a PR3 to a PR4 in the next update without me doing anything at all to make that happen.

JMO but it depends if the inner pages were passing PR, Google will spider it several times before actually determining that the page(s) don't exist anymore then update it and your PR will probably change. If all the links were mostly to the index page it might not be affected at all. But if like the OP said if a high PR site notices that it's no longer linking to the same page they may remove your link.

Yes, For a short time domain flipping or site flipping, it is ok to buy the PR domain.
As Maryleena said, the PR drops down after G-Update but there is no problem in buying a domain having PR4 with a lot of back links and aged.

Mostly, the domain is indexed and even PR dropped after sometime, it will come back again when you start to build up the site . Back links are always backlinks and they stay there.

I bought a plugin for both Godaddy and Name.com and the plugin shows the domain pr instantly when the browser loads.

In this way I grabbed some PR4s and PR3s for domain flipping.

I used Domaintools.com for checking the domain age, Seotools.com for indexed pages and Checkpagerank.net for fake pagerank and backlinks.

    thanks
    Jay

Ahhh... very good point - I never thought of that!

I actually always just looked at the links to the homepage so all of mine kept their PR probably because that's where the links go to.

Thanks so much for pointing that out, I'll definitely have to remember that next time I think bout buying one.

I purchased a new domain and had it hosted @ Bluehost. I then purchased about 40 new domains and set them up as "Add Ons" to the new domain. Page rank is very difficult. If I buy a domain with a high page rank and use it as the anchor for the addons, will that help the pr of the addons. Maybe even buy the site and maintain it to retain the pr?

Here's my list for PR domains (I've just bought a two year valid PR 4 .com with no drops for $45 on DP)

http://www.yourmaindomain.com/ - slightly pricey but always aged, high PR domains available

DomainLore Auctions: .uk Domain Auctions and Pre-bids on deleting domains - a lot of uk domains

Digital Point - Domains Section - A lot junk but a lot of good domains too, often very cheap

NamePros - Buy, Sell, Discuss Domain Names (now have an auction as well as forum format)

We now have an aged domain finder that extracts the domain info from forum listings, flippa and YMD and checks them for things like DMOZ listings, fake PR, drops etc.

    Here's a video - Find Domains

    Hope this helps

    Justin
