Negative Headlines - Do You Make More Money With Them?

Here's the thing a lot of people think negatively and as a result are drawn to negative headlines... just think about the news, people are always interested in the 'bad' why?

Is it just curiosity...

I know they're sometimes common in emails subject lines but, have you ever used negative headlines on a sales letter?

If you look at Jay Abraham's list of top one hundred headlines*, you won't find a single example of the truly negative style I think you are referring to. Most people continue to read base on a perceived benefit pulled from the headline.

Now, if you are talking about getting people to read further for entertainment value, almost every gossip rag known to man uses those type of headlines.

  Good point, so there's definitely times to use them and times to skip using them - I don't think I'd have a main headline of a sales letter be anything negative, just wondering if it has actually worked for anyone else - or if they've even tried it?

I have tested this theory.. in my experience negative headlines grab LOTS more attention but FEWER conversions, even when the 'negative' admission turns out to be a positive one.
