Do you have trouble falling asleep at night after working on your computer? Here's a solution

I often find when I work on my computer before I go to bed I don't fall asleep at as fast. I read an article on how the color temperature of your monitor can disrupt your bodies natural sleep patterns. It recommended a free program to try. I've tried this for a few days and while it's too early to tell a difference yet it's a nice little program and it's free.

You download it on your computer and it automatically changes the color temperature of your monitor throughout the day to better reflect what the sun is doing. No more bright blue screens at night!

That is also the only way that I can wind down. I think I have seen every movie ever created... or pretty close to it.

The program works well. I sitting here looking at my "warm" screen color (it's 9:30 pm local time) without any chemicals :-)

You're not the only one. Unfortunately, reading wakes me up. I've never understood how a good book could put someone to sleep. If a book is good I will often end up pulling an all nighter. If a book is tedious I get pissed off at the author. Either way an emotional response, so no sleep.

The computer is the same. It's the reading that involves me and wakes me up. The white square on my retinas doesn't help either.

This might not be everybody's cup of tea, but meditation with a background of authentic Hawaiian slack key guitar music winds me down in about 20 minutes. 30 without the music...

      Thanks for the link Ron.

I will certainly download and try.

I've bookmarked the link and will download it tomorrow. The reason - believe it or not - I'm just too tired to download it at the monent!

You can bet your sweet life though when I go to bed - I won't be able to sleep.

I normally work late into the evening, so I hope that your link to a potential solution will offer some help.

      Regards,
      Jeff.

Depending on whether or not the Red Sox, Patriots, or Magic won ESPN can make me knock out or stay awake the rest of the night. If they lost I can go for hours rambling in my own head about how stupid they are lol.

But really your idea is probably better. I'll try that.

That's very cool. For thousands of years our bodies were run by the light from the sun. We release certain chemicals that prepare us for sleep as the sun goes down. But since we found this stuff called electricity, we now go from bright light to total darkness and expect to sleep, but it doesn't work that way. Even staring at a computer monitor in a dark room doesn't help because the light fills our field of vision.

One of the best things to do is spend 30-60 minutes in semi-darkness (without screens!) before you go to sleep. This gives your body it's natural time to notice the darkness and prepare for sleep.

Thanks for the link Ronr, its kind of cool. I have always had trouble sleeping. I have a crazy brain, one of those over thinking ones. My day is really busy, so there is no time for my brain to go crazy. So when I do go to bed, it starts the race. Its been that way for years. So, I take few pm pills and watch history or discovery channels programs, specially if its nature related shows. It comes me down and pulls me away form this world and makes me relax, which by that time the PM has kicked in.

But I agree with most that meditation would be the best and healthiest way to prepare for sleep.
